While saddened by this event and the toll taken, I heartened that to see that so far our Greek Brothers and Sisters are safe or in good hands.
School has a good sized GLO; hopefully they all have good news out of this tragedy.

But remember, as part of the greater population of the school, there is very little doubt that they will know some who were not as fortunate.

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Thirty-three people, including the gunman, were killed at a Virginia university Monday in the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history. At least 15 other people were injured, some of them as they leapt to safety from the fourth floor of a classroom building.
The shootings, which took place in two locations on campus, came just four days before the eighth anniversary of the Columbine High School bloodbath near Littleton, Colo. They created panic and confusion at the college, where students and employees angrily asked why the first e-mail warning did not go out to them until the gunman had struck a second time.

Officials: Gunman dead after bloody campus rampage

Story Highlights

NEW: University officials say 33 dead, including gunman
• Four hospitals report 29 wounded
• Attacks mark deadliest school shooting in U.S. history
• Student describes situation as "mayhem"; says 2 students jumped from window

BLACKSBURG, Virginia (CNN) -- At least 33 people, including a gunman, were killed Monday during shootings in a dorm and a building housing classrooms at Virginia Tech, university officials said.
The death toll makes the incident the deadliest school attack in U.S. history.
Two people were killed at a dormitory about 7:15 a.m., while another 30 people were killed two hours later at Norris Hall, the engineering science and mechanics building, university officials said.
Though university police Chief Wendell Flinchum said police were still investigating whether the two incidents were related, he also said the gunman at Norris Hall took his own life. Investigators are not ruling out a second shooter, Flinchum said. (Watch the police chief explain where bodies were found)
"Norris Hall is a tragic and a sorrowful crime scene, and we are in the process of identifying victims," university President Charles Steger said.

Federal Officials: At Least 32 Dead After Virginia Tech University Shooting

Monday , April 16, 2007
By Liza Porteus

BLACKSBURG, Va. —
At least 32 people are confirmed dead and at least another 21 are wounded after a shooting at Virginia Tech University Monday morning, federal law enforcement officials told FOX News.

Campus police said there was only one shooter and he is now dead. They are unsure if the shooter was a student and it was unclear if he was shot by police or took his own life.
"The university was struck today with a tragedy of monumental proportions," Virginia Tech President Charles Steger said during a press conference shortly after noon. "The university is shocked and horrified that this would befall our campus ... I cannot begin to convey my own personal sense of loss over this senselessness of such an incomprehensible and heinous act."
It was the deadliest campus shooting in U.S. history.

Policeman/rescuers carrying students out of the building. Two of the kids were probably identifiable by family but their condition was difficult to ascertain (whether conscious or not, alive or not, etc).

Shortly after that, Fox switched to a picture of a young man, definitely identifiable by family, who had blood coming out of a wound near his hip area.. quite gruesome.

Yea, my brothers girlfriend is a Pi Phi at VTech and her best friend got shot in French class I think. Apparently the dude came in shot the professor point blank, and then started firing into the students.

She was shot in the chest, but apparently is ok.

It's interesting that there was some earlier news about the shooter and his motivation, but the officials are saying that they can't positively identify him right now. (Partially because he didn't carry any ID)

According to a someone familiar with the layout of the Norris building, it's a really basic L shape with one hallway with classrooms all along it. The windows are too narrow to get out of. These kids were sitting ducks.

Kappa Kappa Gamma seems to be reporting that all members have been contacted.
As part of the Virginia Tech community, it is with great sadness that Kappa Kappa Gamma received the news of the terrible tragedy suffered on the campus of Virginia Tech. Our thoughts and prayers are with the student, their families, friends, faculty and staff.

The Fraternity has been in contact with Zeta Mu Chapter on the Virginia Tech campus. The chapter utilized their Emergency Procedures and their phone tree to contact each member of the chapter. Members of Zeta Mu are grateful for the support from our sisterhood.
