I would love to know who the elf (looks like an elf) riding on Harry's back is! Plus, is that Gryffindor's sword from Chamber of Secrets or a new one?

Since there appears to be a ruby in the hilt, I assume the sword is Gryffindor's.

Well we've met three house elves in person, Dobby, Winky and Kreacher. Neither Winky nor Kreacher would normally be inclined to help Harry, though
Winky probably falls under "good" where Kreacher falls under "evil"
However if it were Dobby on Harry's back, he'd be wearing several hats. That house elf does not show any signs of clothing.
Does anyone recall JKR saying that Harry was NOT a Horcrux?

I'd go read it on Mugglenet.com just to make sure, but I'm pretty sure she mentioned it (unless I'm confusing this with J.K.R saying Dumbledore is def. dead).

I thought I remembered her saying it, but yeah I'll have to look into it. A lot of theories I was reading last night involved Harry being the 7th Horcrux and thus either having to potentially destroy himself and/or when he wins he loses his scar or something along those lines.
But I swear she said he wasn't

Despite the lack of hats, I think it must be Dobby. I think one thing that has been foreshadowed is that HWMNBN's downfall will come from cooperation between Wizards, Wtiches and other magical beings -- house elves, centaurs and goblins -- and will result in something of a re-ordering with better relations.

I don't, and it would surprise me if she explicitly said so, since that would be giving away a plot point for Book 7. But I think she has already told us that he is not in Book 4.

I don't remember that. I don't think Harry's a horcrux, either, but I don't remember anything about it in book 4. Of course, I haven't reread GoF for a while, so there's a lot I've forgotten.

There was nothing specific about it in Book 4, but I think there was adequate information from which one can accurately deduce that V did not create a horcrux when he killed Harry's parents and tried to kill Harry. Don't want to get explicit here, though, unless people want explicitness.

I agree. He was trying to kill Harry and I don't think that he inadvertantly created one "in" Harry. The creation of a horcrux must be a deliberate action since the steps to creating one are so heinous.

^^^^ Right. But there is something even more to the point in Book 4, I think.
