I'm kind of torn on this one. On the one hand, I really, really hate to see such a great chapter go dormant. On the other hand, I don't think IHQ should show favor to a chapter that hazes because they are successful in other areas. As high as our insurance is per member on the undergrad level, we just cannot afford any more incidents.

It must have been an extremely painful decision for the High Council to make. I for one don't know if I could be a part of a decision like that.

I think there are other possibilities though. For example, keep the current pledge class and deactivate the remaining membership (although I don't know how that'd jive with the insurance company). Having met a lot of their guys and their advisor at grand chapter, this is terrible for them.

The bottom line though is the bottom line. Insurance costs are out of control. It's a really harsh reality, but those insurance rates will make and break Sigma Nu as an organization (well, maybe not make, but certainly break). We just can't afford to have any hazing-related accidents. HQ doesn't harp on this stuff because they want to baby you, protect your self-esteem, etc. It's a business decision.
