Okay - that sucks! Especially since, if UPS had an inkling of what was inside, they should have just returned it to the sender versus helping themselves to the stock & repackaging it.

I had no idea this was against the law - glad that I have no one I care enough about to send them alcohol (except you, DolphinChica - I would send you the best Pineapple Wine in the world if I could - you know, 99ers privilege and all )

Doesn't it depend on the states involved? I know that I've tried to send wine home from Virginia (one can only carry so much!), and PA wouldn't allow it. For some reason, I thought that some states did allow the sending of alcohol. FWIW, it's definitely illegal to send it overseas!

Yes, it does depend on state, but it still has to be from licensed shippers as I understand it.

It does indeed depend on the state -- specifically, as I recall, the state to which the alcohol is sent/delivered. It has to do with (surprise, surprise) taxes and regulation of sales -- in some states, only the state can sell certain types of alcohol (such as scotch); in other states, sales are more heavily regulated than in others. Usually, though, I have heard of the issue arising from orders, like someone living in State A ordering wine from State B.

I heard on the news the other day that currently 24 (I think) states allow alcohol to be home-delivered from another state.
