How's everybody doing?
I pray that you all are well. It's been a minute since I have written
because I have been on a total whirlwind. I was in Baton Rouge on
Sunday, Atlanta Monday morning, New York Monday night for the
Dreamgirls premier and I was in Chicago today (Tuesday, the 5th of
December).
On top of that I'm taping 10 television episodes of "Meet the Browns"
just like we did for "House of Payne". Not to mention, I've been
getting the Studio up to par, trying to get it ready for the grand
opening party that I'm throwing in February '07. The theme of the
party is called "From Faith To Fruition". I'm even planning a contest
to fly down 10 of the "Board Members" (Message Board) to come and join
the fun at my expense. I'll tell you more about it as it gets closer.
Anyway, so let me tell you what's been going on. "What's Done In The
Dark", my latest play, finished it's first leg on Thanksgiving
weekend. It went very well! Thank you for coming out to see it even
though I wasn't in it. That means a lot to me because, even though I'm
not touring, the people that work for me still need to feed their
families. So, on behalf of all of them, thank you for making their
Holidays great. The show goes back out in January 2007 and there are
still a lot more cities left to go.
I'm on the plane writing this. I'm leaving Chicago right now.
I was
here to tape the Oprah Show. It comes on Wednesday December 6th
(today for most of you reading this). I want you to see it. El Divo
(I think that's how they spell it) sings a song first and them I'm up.
The show was great! One of the best parts about it, for me, was that I got to see where the money went that I gave for the Katrina victims. Even though I was not able to rebuild in the 9th ward of New Orleans because it still looks like it did a year ago, I was able to build 15 houses in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and another 5 in Mississippi. And to see the faces of the families that will receive these houses did my
heart some good. So, if you get a chance to watch Oprah I'm on.
Before I go, I wanted to say thank you to all of you who went to the
"Daddy's Little Girls" web site
http://www.daddyslittlegirlsmovie.com
and to all of the men who wrote in to the message board to say thank
you for considering good fathers and good black men. I heard you loud
and clear. And to all of the sisters that pledged support of this
movie for us as men, thank you for standing with us. It opens on
Valentines Day, Feburary 14th. I know you're going to love it.
Well, when I land I'm headed to the Studio to work on "Meet the
Browns". Oh, let me say Merry Christmas now because I may not get
another chance to send another email between now and then. I leave
for South Africa soon, for the celebrations of the opening of the
Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy there. So, if I get a chance I'll
holla, but if not, you be safe.
Much love, Merry Christmas, and God Bless.
T.P.
