I remember being at Verizon recently, and a mom was trying to get a bigger text message plan for her daughter because she kept going over every month....she was using over TWO THOUSAND, FIVE HUNDRED text messages a month. The employee informed her that 2500 was the biggest plan that they have and you can't add any more.
2500...what else would you have time to do???

no idea, but Cingular has "Unlimited" Texts. She should switch providers
Of course, I have Sudoku on my phone now so I don't have time for anything either.

I have never sent a text message.
My best friend has sent me a few in the past- mainly saying "Please call" or the sort. But I truly know nothing about sending them.

I've recently started to use it more - generally in those situations where i need to tell someone something and i can't talk on the phone. I can send messages through my instand messenger and it saves me txt messaging charges. Although I have a family member who for years would only communicate through email - never the phone, has now switched to text messaging, i'll call him and he'll send me back a txt..... that annoys me to NO end!

I'm a text msg addict. It's a great quick way to talk to people. I'm not always at a computer to email and sometimes a phone call is too much work. I try to keep the msgs short & to the point. It's good in the city I guess because some restaurants & bars have too much noise to take a call and some don't allow the use of cell phones period.
As far as relationships & texting: I think in the beginning there should be more phone calls than texts. However, I always appreciated a short & sweet surprise text while I was dating.

One thing to worry about with excessive text messaging is getting carpal tunnel/ tendonitis. I heard it has become a lot more common in Asian countries where texting has been popular for a lot longer.
My cousin can literally hold a conversation with someone and text message at the same time. I kind of find it annoying that her fingers are moving while I'm talking... One day by noon she'd already sent 200. That would definetly put her over the 2500 mark.

I personally like to text during sorority meetings...it can be quite entertaining!
But anyway, I like to text, but only in a small amount. I normally reserve it for yes/no questions and if someone wants to start up the whole text-convo I turn off my phone.

im a texter... and i typically dont have a problem with it. i have some friends who use it ALL the time, and thats where it gets annoying. but, there are some people i rather JUST text because they are wack on the phone. these are people i dont want wasting my minutes even if it is after 9:01pm.
i do spell everything out, cause im really past the age of chatspeak. and i DEFINITELY dont use the automated message - that ish is soooooo frustrating.

Considering Mother Nature hated Hawai`i today...
When you suddenly find yourself and your neighborhood reeling from an earthquake while putting up with flash flooding and phone lines across the state were jammed left and right...
TEXT MESSAGING IS YOUR VERY BEST FRIEND.
My aunt on the Big Island taught herself how to use the feature just to let all of us know that she and the family were all okay!

You'd be kicked out of our chapter meeting for that in .0000000239850 seconds - we actually had a situation where someone was texting & it was weird how we found out... one of our members came out of chapter to go to the bathroom. While there, a member of another sorority was in the bathroom texting & she laughs at my member and says "hey, I am sitting here texting with Sally-Sue-AXO right now!" The member came back & reported it. Needless to say, there is no more texting in chapter.
And not to say this to you personally, Rio, but I would be willing to bet that 99% of the people texting during chapter meetings, are the ones that call half our exec board after a meeting or before an event to find out details about something b/c they missed it in chapter

Just like students who text or email during class.

Oh, if the meeting is actually important I/we wouldn't. Also it helps that we have less than 10 girls in the chapter (campus average) so we don't
have an exec board and all that stuff for everyone to cause a hissy fit over. The atmosphere here is much more relaxed than most colleges.

I completely agree - clubs and lounges in the city are way too loud to make a call. When I am out I will text people if we lose each other in the bar or to check on people who are running late. It's so much easier than having to run in and out of the place. Also if I ever need an address or something I might want to save I have people text me so I don't lose it.
