I'm not sure that it's right to say today is not a day for nitpicking. EVERY day is a day for critical thought, questioning and yes, nitpicking comes along for the ride.

Giving up critical thinking because of a tragedy leads to less independant thought.

Today is the best day for critical thought. If you give up thinking critically about things, then the terrorists win.
