Wow. That's crazy. I feel bad for him. At least you know he's safe though.

I had to re-wire my brain packing last night. I had to keep reminding myself not to put any handcream, toothpaste, etc. in my carry-on (something I wouldn't think twice about before). We are leaving for the airport extra early today. Our flight isn't until 2:15 PM, but we plan on arriving at 11am this morning.
As far as buying drinks and stuff post security, I know Vancouver has asked all merchants to put any drinks/liquid into open cups, and it must be discarded before boarding the plane.
I am not looking forward to this flight to NY. I dry out easily when I fly, so it will be hard not having water (will have to wait for the flight attendant), hand cream, contact solution, eyedrops.
Oh yeah, does anybody know if you are still allowed to buy Duty Free? I was hoping to pick up a bottle of BC wine for our friend in NJ who we are staying with... guess I will find out soon enough.

I don't know if you're still on here, but on our Channel 9 (Windsor CBC), they said NO to duty free liquids.

Don't think so on the Duty Free. There was a story about someone shotgunning a bottle of champagne in security so it wouldn't go to waste.
/not sure that that's still not a waste of a nice bottle of champagne

So what happens if you want to buy something duty free? You can't? Or can they just keep it on the plane for you until it lands?

I think as long as you check whatever you buy, you're fine. But I'm not sure that alcohol bottles would do well if they're not pressurized. I've had enough trouble with shampoo bottles exploding...

I'm pretty sure most types of planes maintain pressure in the cargo hold, just as an FYI - there have been dozens of examples of planes having to land because of pressure destabilization in the cargo hold. However, it's lower than in the cabin (but not by too much).
The shampoo exploding may be a result of temperature/thermal expansion more than anything, or the physical handling of your bags. The temperature decrease is significant over the course of a flight.

Interesting, good to know. It may have been the temperature then. I was just always taught to carry all of my bottles in my carry on, and anything I did check was in a ziplock bag.

You're right. They have to keep the cargo hold pressurized since many people will check their pets when they fly somewhere and also because they plane wouldn't be able to land if the pressure was completely skewed.
