With all of the other stuff going on in the world, is it really wrong of me to find it really hard to care whether an actor/director -- even a big deal like this one -- is an alleged anti-semite semi-alcoholic?
It just doesn't seem that important.

I don't think it's the most important thing going on in the world by a long shot, but if someone is making movies and (theoretically) influencing people with those movies then I think his racist and misogynistic statements are a problem.

Well, cut Gibson a break on that. The entire Hollywood community makes me want to throw up. They are modern day court jesters, here for our entertainment. Every time I see someone who has made a career of stalking celebrities, I die a little inside. Seriously, when Angelina Jolie goes to Home Depot, and you're excited about it cause she's getting a new showerhead, kill yourself.
*the point being, there isn't much about Hollywood I would want my kids to be influenced by.

Haha, I don't think any of us are saying that it's an earth-shattering event. However, it's mildly interesting, so why not talk about it?

Absolutely.
Especially when you make a movie about Jesus and become holier than thou and make snearing comments judging others for drinking and having sex.
Maybe Mel should turn that nice church he built in Malibu into a rehab clinic.
