I saw a show on it - I thought it was American Justice, too - and it highly insinuated that Jaclyn's uncle (or was it step-uncle?) was heavily regarded as the main suspect. He had been institutionalized, and his alibi for the night Jaclyn was killed admitted that she had lied. I think they also insinuated that Richard Dailey's political ambitions had a lot to do with David Dowaliby's original conviction, too.

FWIW, I tend to think the uncle did it as well. The uncle was able to describe Jaclyn's bedroom in minute detail, despite never having been inside the Dowaliby house. It's possible that he could have gotten the info. from Jaclyn's paternal grandmother who did have visitation rights. I've heard that Jaclyn's dad believes his brother is innocent, and still thinks the stepfather did it.

As for Daley, well, he's a politician. I do think he used the case to further his career; I never got the feeling that he cared about who killed Jaclyn; he was more interested in the conviction to make his record look good.

On a side note, there's a book on the case called "Gone in the Night" which I liked until it became a truly horrid mini-series with Shannen Doherty.
