At smaller schools, I would say yes definitely. At Big 10, Pac 10 etc, probably not. I think it's probably a combination of the coaches discouraging pledging and the fraternities themselves asking more from their members. No more "you're a good image for us cause you're the starting quarterback so you can blow off meetings" etc. Which, IMO, is a good thing. Not saying that is always the case, if you can give your best to both that's all good.
