Football
I know it probably isn't cool at your school, but for those of us at good football schools.... How did things go, recruiting, coaches etc...
I know the SEC did extremely well, Florida owning in recruiting and Auburn adding Muschamp to build quite possibly the best coaching staff in the country. |
Texas, 5th best recruiting class. did really well. #1 LB recruit in country. Oh yeah, sorry if this post offends anyone. I am not racist, I am not being mean to anyone, and I have not called anyone a name. I'm sure someone on this site is offended by football though, so im sure this post will be removed.

jocks/greeks
is there such a thing as a jock house these days? TKE had some
super jocks like Marv Levy, Maurice Stokes, Phil Simms, Terry Bradshaw...but have not heard of any to speak of for years. Do the coaches discourage pledging? |
Shouldn't this thread really be in CC/Entertainment, since the original post and reply clearly has nothing to do with Greek Life?
To answer the OP--Kentucky did okay for signing day. Keep an eye on Micah Johnson (LB/RB) and Corey Peters (DT) in the future. If we could just find a real coach willing to come to UK, maybe we'd see some football again. |

Of late, I've heard about more female varsity athletes at IU going Greek than males. (ObDisclaimer: Not a guy, not currently at IU, blah blah.) |
I think Eli Manning was a sigma nu at Ole Miss.

That Chapter has produced at least two Super Bowl MVP's -- John Elway and Jim Plunkett -- and a number of other NFL stars. Colorado, with a coach who has been there only a couple of months is said to have the 12th best recruiting class in the Big 12. By the way, I agree that this might make more sense in Chit Chat and will move it there. |

My husband went to a small DIII school and started both football and track and was an active ATO all four years. For a while, there were quite a few ATOs on the football team, but I think that's since changed (mostly because the school is a big enginerd school and is doing what it can to try and kill the athletics program.) |
Eli Manning was indeed a Sigma Nu at Ole Miss, as was his father Archie Manning before him.
And yes, Delt is once again the jock house at Stanford. Delt Jay Langhammer is a friend and keeps me informed. Pike is the big jock house at Florida State and at the University of Miami: mostly football, but also basketball, baseball, lacrosse, etc. I was trying to remember the names of some famous fraternity men who played varsity sports in college. They all joined fraternities as undergraduates... Ronald Reagan, TKE / football at Eureka; Drew Brees, Sigma Chi / football at Purdue; John Wayne, Sigma Chi / football at USC; Burt Reynolds, Phi Delt / football at FSU; Florida Governor Charlie Crist, Pike / freshman football; Gerald Ford, DKE / football at Michigan; Robert Redford, Kappa Sigma / baseball at Colorado; Lee Corso, ATO / football at FSU; Kevin Costner, Delta Chi / soccer at some school in California; Nightline's Ted Koppel, Pike / soccer at Syracuse; Supreme Court Chief Justice Byron White, Delt / football - don't know where; Former Vice Pres. Dan Quayle, DKE / golf at Butler; George Bush #1, DKE / baseball at Yale; (Texas Coach) Mack Brown, SAE / football at FSU; (USC Coach) Pete Carroll, SAE / football - don't know where; (Clemson Coach) Dabo Swinny, Pike / football at Alabama; (Maryland Coach) Ralph Fridgen, Phi Delt / football - don't know where; (Gamecock Coach) Steve Spurrier, ATO / football at Florida; (FSU Coach) Bobby Bowden, Pike / football, baseball, track at Samford; (Florida Coach) Urban Meyer, Sigma Chi (I think); I'm sure there are many more but these are the ones that come to mind. |
i think that fridgen played at maryland.
|
Steve Spurrier was an ATO at UF.
|
A few Kappa Sigmas that come to mind:
Golf: Curtis Strange, Jay Haas, Peter Jacobsen Football: Dan Dierdorf, Cam Cameron, Fisher DeBerry, Ted Hendricks Basketball: Rick Barry, Rollie Massimino Team owners: Jerry Jones, Lamar Hunt |
I cut and pasted from our HQ's site... didn't keep the formatting.
If you really care, here's a link.http://www.sigmanu.org/about/famous_sigmanus.php FWIW, I think Paul Bryant, a Sigma Nu from the University of Alabama wins this thread. |
