I got my boyfriend US Open tickets for his birthday. He said it was the best present he's gotten in a while.

I've got to buy a gift for the BF's b-day in a few weeks. We had just started dating when my birthday came up so we went out to a nice place for dinner & drinks. But now it's 4 months later & his birthday. And like Rudey, he's a man who has everything. SOOOO I'm thinking a night out for something in NYC. Perhaps something slightly cheesy & touristy like the evening night loop on the double decker buses or the night boat cruise.

I told her she'd be better off giving him something he can really use and appreciate like something for his guitar, or something that's surfing related since that's what he likes. I also told her that a scrapbook is a great gift for women but not really the ideal gift for men. She's now mad at me b/c she thinks I insulted her gift. In hindsight, I probably was a little tactless but was I right to tell her this or should I have kept my mouth shut? I don't know b/c I've always gotten my fiance gifts I know he would use & want like sports gifts, movies, & stuff like that.
I'd have to say this is thoughtless on your part quite honestly. I would have gotten mad too. I did that for my fiance for our first year anniversary and he liked it, granted I also got him other stuff as well, but that was the main gift - a scrapbook of our trip to Europe - and he thought it was awesome because I took the time to go through all the photos and put them in order in an album. Maybe her boyfriend would like that.

Me personally, I'd prefer the night boat cruise over the double decker buses.

Is he in to the touristy type stuff?

I think it really depends on the guy. I gave a small scrapbook to a previous boyfriend for some anniversary. While he seemed to like it when I gave it to him, it ended up stashed in some box somewhere in oblivion and he probably would have been happier with something more "material."

However, I think my current bf would love one. He always sees me scrapbooking for myself so I'm sure he'd like one for himself.

You never do that tourist stuff in NYC if you live here, infact usually you hate that stuff! But he & I keep seeing the buses around & he's mentioned the boat cruises too. I think, well I hope, it won't be so touristy at night in Oct. I think the boat is gonna beat the bus cause there's adult beverages on sale onboard!!

Plus, think about how romantic it'll be: the two of you, dancing, drinking, laughing under the moon & stars all night long as you sail through the water. Just make sure he doesn't get motion sick.

Here's an update. They broke up. Shortly after the gift fiasco (he gave her pajama's) all she could do was go on and on about how he didn't like the scrapbook and all she got were crappy pajamas. Then they broke up.

Take him on one of those wine-tasting tours of LI. You'd take the train out to one of them, and you can have a car pick you up to take you out there. I think some even have little inns for a romantic weekend.

what about an ex-bf, but now friend?

So long story short, a guy is now my ex boyfriend... we're kinda friends, like we're civil to each other b/c we have a lot of mutual friends and we both hang out w/ our mutual friends a lot (sometimes he's there, sometimes he's not)

Every year the mutual friends have a christmas party, and everyone exchanges gifts... (everyone will usually buy something for everyone else) so what should I get the ex boyfriend? Should I get him something?

It's a ways off till Christmas but here's my opinion:

If you're still friends AND if you're getting something for everyone else it would seem petty not to get him something too. I wouldn't get him anything big, probably about equal to what you would get for the person you're least friendly with at the party. (If that made any sense.)
