One way to look at it is that kids have so many other ways to occupy their time if their parents are playing bid whist, so they don't see it. Why watch my boring parents play some hard game when I can play my GameBoy/PS2/etc? In middle and high school, kids learn spades because it's so much easier to catch on to, but Bid Whist just never caught on to us.
I wish they would target it to "African Americans that want to have a good time".
