Is marriage really sacred anymore?

We've had quite a lot of discussion about gay marriage. Some are for. Others against. Good arguments on both sides. I personally am still on the fence, but ultimately, marriage is about love. Which brings me to the point of starting this thread...
Do you believe that marriages for reasons other than love (money, lust, neediness, citizenship) are as bad if not worse than gay marriage? Many marriages that originate from the above mentioned roots often end in divorce, which is also something that people have religious beliefs about. I feel that the way people get married nowadays shows a decline in our society just as much as some people believe gay marriage does. Discuss.
