The way they do things there with their money would be so frustrating. I can’t even imagine. And then to carry that much cash on you like that… I mean, that’s like telling someone “Hey, I have lots of cash on me, so please mug me!” I think I’d actually like the idea of the bills being different sizes, especially if I was a tourist or a new resident there. Know what I mean?

Japan is an incredibly safe country, theft is extremely rare (outside of umbrellas and bikes). You could walk into a Starbucks, place a bag/jacket/laptop on a table and spend 5 minutes ordering a coffee or using the bathroom and your things will still be there.
I usually order my bills by amount, with the lesser value being first. Having several 1000 yen bills with a single 10,000 yen bill that sticks out a few centimeters will bug me.
