I have read this thread and my head spins!
I live in reality and I know what my daughter is up against these days in recruitment as I stay very active with my org. It is called life! I am one of those people that find it truly sad that countless young girls that have the recs, grades, resume, and the connections don't receive bids. Many of the young ladies would have made excellent members and yes, they have been groomed for generations. Sure, I don't know each and every reason they were denied and it may very well be because "they" blew it, but I know all too many times it is not that reason.
I know numerous times young women are chosen because they are beautiful and pretty much that is it. They have that "look of the year" and it will provide them a nice invitation to numerous orgs. Sure, they have the minimum required GPA, but if you stack up everything else next to many of the well prepared PNMS that beauty comes up short. I have seen this even with sophomores going through at competitve schools and they receive bids. This is what I call part of life and moms need to wake up.
Sure, my daughter will be prepared, but it is way out of her hands on so many levels. I think as a mother you have to live in reality and be honest with your child. You have to have the basics and then some, but even that isn't enough where I live for my daughter to receive a bid.
