There's two or three people who I DON'T want reading my blogs, then there's people who I don't care either way, and the rest I would like for them to read my blogs. I could just add everyone but those two or three, but it would seem awkward (for me) to add the second group (if they knew it). That's because I've kind of lost touch with them, it would seem strange if they suddenly saw a message that I've added them to my preferred list. I don't mind if they read my blogs nevertheless.
I don't think people get messages on whether or not they are put on your preferred list... if those people who you don't want reading your blogs subscribe to your blog though (which you can check when you click "My Readers") they will get an email and myspace message saying someone they are subscribing to has posted a new blog.

If the blog is viewable to preffered friends only, they will see a screen that says "This blog is viewable to preferred friends only" or something to that effect when they try to click on it.
