This is good advice, Luz. You'll never know what might happen unless you go through recruitment, so if you go and have a great time that's beneficial in and of itself. The worst that could happen is that you're not able to be placed due to your status, and the best is that you could end up having lots of fun and find a chapter that's perfect for you.
And please don't mistake aspects of the AI argument about shopping as applicable to your situation...undergraduate sorority recruitment is really all about looking around for a chapter that mutually benefits both you and the active sisters. Trust us, nobody would think you're "shopping" unless your sole intention is to go through undergraduate recruitment as a way of researching chapters you'd like to contact for potential AI (which you're obviously not doing
