Today I actually went to one Starbucks, decided I didn't like the seating arrangements (because I was going to study with some friends), and drove across the street to the other one. Literally, directly across the street, about 40 yards from each other. And this is in River Oaks, one of the nicest parts of Houston, yet very close to some not so nice areas.
But my Starbucks experience today was not a great one. The hoity toity barista threw out a blind guy. Seriously, this was the most disturbing thing I've seen in a while. I don't know if this guy comes in to their store a lot or something, but this lady that works there asks him to leave. He starts yelling "Why is it that every time I come in here, you think I'm begging? This is bull$hit! Never mind, I don't want your coffee anyways! I'm sorry for ruining your little coffee shop!" And he goes out the door, and into the parking lot, and almost walks right into the street. He throws his cane into the street and a car runs it over.
So I'm watching in horror, and this guy runs out and pulls the guy away from the street, and stops traffic to go pick the guy's cane up. The guy walks the blind dude over to a table outside, and then gets some money from the guy and comes in and buys him a coffee. The guy talks to the lady that threw the guy out, so maybe she told him the whole story about this blind guy. And I did see this rich lady pull a $20 out and give it to the guy when he was still in the store. So I have no idea, maybe this blind dude does come in all the time and prey on the rich Starbucks drinkers. But his little scene sure did make that barista look like a cold, heartless bitch.
