Maid of Honor advice?

In general, I would try to only take 1 or 2 bridesmaids with you. More and drama tends to happen. However, and this goes double if you don't know them well, I would ask if they have any special concerns with the dress.

Funny you should post this because the brands we're looking at are Mori Lee or Bill Levikoff. Nothing against David's (because I know some of you have gotten things from there) but she has had bad experiences with them as a bridesmaid, and just didn't want to risk it happening to her girls.

As far as details, she is having 4 bridemaids a junior bridesmaid, and a MOH. Color-wise, we're looking at chocolate brown, which I think looks good on everyone.

For the exact reason you mentioned above, only she and I are going shopping for them. She already asked everyone if there was any style that they would ABSOLUTELY not wear, and the only answer included strapless anything (which we weren't going to subject anyone to anyway). I just hope everyone is okay with the choice.
