Note there were few to no problems when Israel, Britain, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand Australia, etc allowed LGBT citizens to serve in their militaries. No complaints of unit cohesion going down.

Actually Britain has gone a step further: the Royal Navy is actively recruiting members of the homosexual community - be specifically trageting their advertising, and highlighting the current positive experiences of those already serving.

I could make a joke about this, but I won't.

I will!
In the navy,
Yes you can sail the seven seas...
In the navy,
Yes you can put your mind at ease....
In the navy,
Come on, fall in and make a stand...
In the navy,
Can't you see we need a hand?

this is about as newsworthy as the bill to reinstate the draft. All hype, no result. I think it's stupid to have this policy in our military, but like the article said, they could only get 1 republican to sponsor this piece of legislation.

Actually for a manpower strapped US military this could be big news - after all it opens up another segement of society to successful service in the military, while reducing the "leakage" of currently serving members due to harassment.
If other professional militaries can operate with the acceptance of homosexuals, I don't see why the US military can't as well.
