I chose gizmo because the word has a lot of memories for me from my childhood. When I was around eight years old I was the mascot twirler for my sisters' high school marching band. During that year, they were playing a piece called Gremlin. Since my mother can really sew (she sewed the entire band's uniforms one year) it was decided that it would be great to have a gizmo running around on the field being chased by a bunch of gremlins during that song. It was quite entertaining, believe me.
However, the gizmo doesn't stop there. After having used it for that and for Halloween as well, my family decided that we didn't just want to toss the costume. Afterall, Mom had won the golden thimble award for making it. Well, I also was playing softball at the time and all of the teams (or almost all) in our club were called the Chiefs. So we decided to become the Gizmo Chiefs. Mom made us a banner and we even came up with a way to keep the costume around. We stuffed it with cotton and let a different member of the team take it home each week.
Finally, when I became a member of ASK, I had to come up with a question for my sisters to answer. So one of those questions was related to the stories above. It is amusing sometimes though if new members don't know the story, they will think that I like to mess around with various mechanical objects (chemical engineering). So the story has to be told again and again. I keep it around because it is quite unique, especially in my chapter, and also is a great ice breaker from an alum stand point when talking to new candidates and actives.

Mine too is pretty self explanatory. gphi = Gamma Phi Beta, my soror, and 2K = 2000, the year I graduated.
my other user name that i use sometimes is madison_gpb. Madison stands for Madison Avenue, the street my chapter house is on, and gpb, is, of course, gamma phi beta.
That's it that's all.

Dare I say the REAL reason????
I was a lurker for a while and then something peeked my interest to post. I was tired of my other on-line persona (Grasshoppah), so I was trying to come up with a cool, somewhat mysterious name. I had a pack of Eclipse gum on my desk....so... it was either Eclipse, water bottle or telephone. I thought Eclipse sounded better!
I started using grasshoppah because a friend called me that in college because I have long legs--like a grasshopper!!

A bartender at my very first job started calling me Cutie Pie, and once we all became friends, it just stuck. My cell phone says the same

My name comes from my sorority's mascot, the panda bear (it's a service sorority, not AOPi) and the 19 is because I'm getting married on May 19th of this year.

Mine is pretty boring/unoriginal - it's my first name, but to make this post semi-interesting, here's how you pronounce it for those who have been tongue-tied/baffled by it - Siobhan (Sha-von), that's the Irish for you

One of my friends has the same name, and when people see her name on paper, they are like how do you pronounce that.

I thought this was a cute idea!
I chose my handle after my Sorority---Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Then an underscore, no reason, just did it.
And Monet is my line name because my Big Sisters and line sisters doubted as to the type of person I am 'cuz of lies other folxs said (The price you pay attending an HBCU).
Anyhow, while on line, the ivies had to give their Big Sisters gifts and since I was very limited on funds, I wanted a Big Sister of mine to just feel like she had a nice day. So I painted her this picture: It was a beach setting with palm trees and an ocean, I got a hold of a beach chair with a picnic basket with food. Then I surrounded the picture with pink and green Xmas lights (if y'all were ever on line, you'd know I just had to do this) and a wonderful greeting for her. From that point, I guess she became my Special Big Sister (my specsh).
This Big Sister was soooo impressed with me and my painting was sooooo impressionable and I made such a big impression of everybody by the fact that I crossed my line that I was named after Claude Monet, the french impressionist...
When my Special Big Sister told me my line name after I crossed, I just about cried because it was the sweetest thing anyone had ever told me!
