Sorhors,
Amen to Sorhor Bluereign - I'm just glad that I have two teacher workdays coming up on Monday and Tuesday, because the Second quarter ended today in Fairfax County. Houston we are at the halfway mark-two quarters down and two more to go! Yes, I get a break from those very active 7th graders.
We still need a nice song for responsible people.
Sorhor Jojopeach - you can blame a lot of the problems for getting certified on the Bush administration and that "No Child Left Behind." Unfortunately, that's one initiative that's leaving a lot of folks behind - Teachers, students, parents, and yes, even communities. If a school system or rather students don't pass their standardized test in their core areas (English, Social Studies, Math and Science) and in their assigned grade levels then the school or system can lose their accreditation. Most folks want to live, work, and enjoy their leisure activities in an area that's doing extremely well. If the school system continues to fall short on the those test then most folks will begin to look else for their American dream.
Thanks a lot George W!

Sorhor Jojopeach a lot states will allow you to take the Praxis I, II, and III online and if you can handle special education students many public school systems will pay for your course work and even a graduated degree in special education.
Send me a pm if you want more information.

Ironically, I went to the GTAPP informational session today, and that is the first step towards my future. The Georgia Teachers Alternative Preparation Program is supposed to help those with college degrees outside of education earn their clear, renewable GA teaching certificates. Some counties have their own variation of the program as approved by the GA Professional Standards Commission. I'm hoping that a principal can see that I can add a lot to their school and will decide to hire me.
I thought about special education, but I know it's not for me. I barely have patience with the regular children. Thanks for the info.

Okay, let me know what you all think of this one:
This morning, as I drove to work, the new song by the latest American Idol, Fantasia, came on the radio. It's called "Baby's Mama."
Now, let me preface this by saying that I LOVE Fantasia's voice; I rooted for her the whole entire season that she appeared on American Idol last year and I am glad that she won...but I had an issue with this song:
The song is talking about being a "baby's mama" in the sense that she gives props to all the single moms out there who are taking care of business
|
I know Fantasia is a single mother, and I think in her song she was more so saying "good job", "keep your head up", "I care", and any other form of encouragement to keep going. I don't think she is saying "go out, commit fornication, get a baby, that's cool".

This song irritates me as well sorors!! Don't get me wrong, I do give props to a lot of singles mothers out there who are doin' the damn thing!!!! One of my closest friends is a single mother, she had her baby freshman year of college and sister went on to get her Master's degree, she's a supervisor running her own program where she works and she's a really good mother and she asks for help from no one. And while she is doing what she's supposed to do, which is take care of her child, I can't help but be proud of her and give her props. Now what I can't do is pretend that I like that song. Baby mama is such a negative term that was not coined by single mothers themselves, but from men who didn't know what to call women that they did not have relationships with but had a child or children with. And usually when they say it, its with disgust and disrespect. And I don't like the fact that some of these women latch on to this title without thinking about the implications of it. Another reason why I don't like it is because, and I may be wrong but, I don't think Fantasia had any input on this song. Normally the winner of american idol has to record an album of songs that were pre written before the winner is even determined. And I don't think the winners even have any input on what goes on the album after they win. So I'm thinking, since Fantasia discussed publicly her past with her daughter's father and that she was young single mother, the producers were like, "hey why don't we have her do an 'anthem' for all baby mamas out there". They are people who have never had the exerience of "baby mama, baby daddy", they might have thought that Fantasia could be a so-called voice for all the baby mamas out there. What could Fantasia do but say yes. If she said no then maybe she'd lose her deal. It's a lot that could be said about this whole thing!!!!!

I wholeheartedly agree with the above. I guess the message is ok it's just the title of the song that irks me.

The song is catchy, and it has a semi-positive message. I think a lot of people are missing that message. Why should we be putting "baby Mamas" on a thrown. They are Women just like the rest of us.
Like bluethunder said, Where is the song for the hard working women that go to school etc. all on their own.
It kinda irratates me that I , and many other women do all the stuff that she is singing about minus the baby and the check, and we don't get a song.
What really gets me is when I see a "baby mama" with 4 kids, 3 baby daddys, no education, working at Mickey Ds, and living it up(because she gets all kind of government help) riding down the street singing Fantasia's "baby mama". I just want to scream
"that song is not about you!!!"
