the only educated males left

Tom Wolfe's new novel:

"At Dupont College though, at least in the fraternities and the sports programs, these qualities have been reduced to parody.

"Over and against "the dorks, GPA geeks, Goths, lesbos, homobos, bi-bos, S and Mbos, black-bos, Latinos... and other whining diversoids," Hoyt (a student), who thinks of himself as "a born leader of the warrior class," imagines that "If America ever had to go to war again . . . there would be only one source of officers other than the military academies: frat boys. They were the only educated males left who were conditioned to think and react . . . like men."

The difference is that breathesgelatin was probably very, very drunk when she posted.

It's a scary thing, but I believe he may be correct.

But there in lies the problem. Educated males who think and react denote war as a barbaric act and thus work to prevent it.

Intelligent and educated males are also able to resolve the paradox that in order to prevent war, you must prepare for it. Also, there are times when inaction is the most barbaric act of all.

Hmmm... being in the military I've always mistrusted those who would label themselves as a "born leader" or a "warrior"... generally they were the major f*ck-ups.
