I think this probably happens relatively often in schools that have deferred rush and open association between freshmen and sorority members. I mean, if Susie's sister is a Kappa, she hangs out with the Kappas at parties all the time and changes her dorm so she can live next to the Kappa suite, I'm going to probably say there's a 99.9% chance that I should just go ahead and cut Susie because she's going to go Kappa.
But when you're rushing before school even starts, I don't know how you can predict things like that. Say ASA is the sorority with all the athletes - and Jen is a 4 time HS tennis champ and was also on the basketball & track teams. Maybe you decide to cut her because you assume she'll want to be with other athletes. Little do you know that over the summer, she messed up her leg and the LAST thing she wants is to be around anyone talking about sports. You just potentially screwed yourself out of someone who might have been a good sister.
Plus just because someone looks good to YOU doesn't mean she does to the other groups. She could look great on paper but the other chapters might have girls who went to HS with her and know what she's really like.
