UC Riverside to suspend the Psi Chi Omega

UC Riverside To Suspend Psi Chi Omega Fraternity

March 31, 2004

LOS ANGELES -- A hazing incident has led the University of California, Riverside to suspend the Psi Chi Omega fraternity.

The university's student conduct committee has ruled that the fraternity can't meet or recruit members through November 12th.

Afterward, it will be on probation for three years and members must receive anti-hazing training.

The suspension started last fall when a 20-year-old student suffered liver lacerations when he collided with a fraternity member.

They were running blindfolded through what police called a "forest" of people.

How do you get liver lacerations from colliding with someone?

liver injuries

Most frequently injured abdominal organ after spleen
Most often due to deceleration injuries
Often seen in association with
Right-sided rib fractures
Right-sided pneumothorax
Right lung contusion
Injuries to the right kidney or adrenal gland
<excerpt from LearningRadiology.com>

Sounds like if he broke his ribs they can lacerate the liver.

Thanks, AGDee! I was picturing two guys just running into one another and wondering how that could happen (I've collided with people when playing sports but nothing like that ever happened.) This is very, very sad!
