Kym Whitley is an Actor, Director and Stand-up comic. She is set to co-host BET's new fall morning show, Oh Drama! She most recently starred as Darice Mayberry, the occasionally high strung manager of a family owned Los Angeles storefront law firm, in the Sitcom SPARKS. This comedy series about family dynamics, sibling rivalry and office romance was a 20th Century Fox Production for UPN.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Whitley got her start in show business while visiting Los Angeles and the set of the music/dance show Soul Train with her friend, singer Gerald Levert. Her striking resemblance to now sister Sister star, Jackee, got her noticed and prompted an invitation two days later to portray "Sandra's" look alike cousin on the sit-com "227's" last season. Later, Whitley worked again with Jackee, this time playing her twin sister in the NBC movie of the week Double your Pleasure. Whitley has guest starred on numerous series, including Married with Children, The Parenthood and Martin.
She was a series regular on Nickelodeon's My Brother and Me and All That. Her feature film credits include Street Wars and 25 Lighthouse. The latter of which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May 1996.
In addition to her work in front of the camera, Whitley has extensive credits, behind the scenes. While honing her craft with classes and workshops, she served as an assistant to Arsenio hall and Stevie Wonder. She has also worked as a production coordinator on several music videos and on Blair Underwood's directorial debut, the feature film, The Second Coming. After touring in the role of Sister Rosemary in the hit Shelly Garrett play Beauty Shop, Whitley was given the opportunity to again step behind-the-scenes as director of another Garrett production called Living Room. This play went on to gross over 33 million dollars.
Whitley, who has also lived in the Sudan, Africa,
is a graduate of Fisk University in Nashville Tennessee.Whitley is currently in the final stages of her first book-project, Never Give Up Unless You Really Can't Act, which is a how to make it in showbiz book.
