Man issued with speeding fine 'for driving at 406mph'

Quote:
A motorist has been issued a fixed penalty notice for allegedly driving at 346mph over the speed limit on a Cheshire road.

Peter O'Flynn says he was stunned to receive the speeding notice claiming a Runcorn roadside camera had clocked him driving at 406mph.

Officials say it's a clerical error, but say Mr O'Flynn will still be prosecuted.

Peter was driving a Peugeot 406 courtesy car while his own was being repaired. He said: "I rarely speed and it's safe to say I'll contest this."

The Peugeot 406 Sport has a top speed of 129mph. "I don't see how anyone can trust this camera," added Mr O'Flynn.

But the Cheshire Safety Camera Partnership, which issued the speeding notice, said they would still take action despite the blunder, says The Sun.

A spokesman said they would be applying to magistrates for a summons.

Wow. And I got slapped with a ticket for going 37 in a 25.

Of course I contested it last month, and the judge laughed and dismissed it.

A fixed penalty?

Here, if it's (speed limit) 70 and you are caught doing 90....YOU GO TO JAIL!

Most state laws consider speeding above 20 miles over the posted speed limit the more serious charge of reckless driving.

I don't know the rules in all states, but in Illinois at least, that is a myth. You can NOT get a ticket for reckless driving simply for driving too fast. There is some legalese in there like "a willful disregard for the safety of others" that is rather difficult to prove.

Most people with reckless driving convictions really had DUI's that their lawyers pled down to reckless driving.

Well I was doing 92 in a 70 on the turnpike in Florida (oops), and I certainly didn't get arrested (thank god, the cop was a jerk, to put it nicely). But I have heard that if you do 25+ that you can get arrested, or at least have a more serious charge. Don't know the validity of that though, my friend told me. It was just bad enough to have a $173 ticket for being pulled over for the first (and hopefully last!) time. The $206 in court fees didn't help either
