You can bet if that was anybody else, the child would be immediately taken away while they investigate!

Just spent what was supposed to be a relaxing long weekend away... Unfortunately someone booked a youth soccer league (preteen to early teenage kids) into the same hotel. I can think of no other word to describe the children than as an infestation. Kids running up and down the hall, screaming and yelling, at all hours of the day and night. They overloaded the elevators because they had to go back and forth from their rooms (on all different floors of the hotel) and the pool every five minutes. And one of them pulled the fire alarm at 2:15am, prompting an evacuation of the entire hotel.
Where were their parents? In the bar getting $h!tfaced. I even ran into one mother walking around the hotel with a large glass of vodka. Her idea of supervising her 10yo son was telling him "go back to the room and fetch your brother" while she got in the elevator to go down to the lobby bar for a refill.

Ugh, you poor thing. I often encounter the same scenario in restuarants...the group of parents have one table, totally self absorbed and usually 3 sheets to the wind. The other table is the kids, loud, obnoxious, and rude. No matter how many people shoot dirty looks over there, the parents are totally oblivious. I wish *my* mom had been that blind towards me! Definitely kidding. Many people can vouch for me when I say that I was a very well behaved kid. I was too scared to be anything else.

We had our State Day the same weekend as MS/HS basketball playoffs and I don't think the hotel staff knew which was worse...a bunch of sorority collegiates and alumnae or MS/HS kids running around...

I attended a First Holy Communion Party at the Milleridge Inn last weekend. It is a facility that is over 300 years old. This event was held in one of the smaller rooms. There were seven children under the age of seven. The youngest was born in March and she was the only good one. The six of them ran around the table screaming at the tops of their lungs. Their parents and grandparents did nothing to stop them. When they became bored with that, they began to run outside the room. The room had two doors so the children ran outside from door to door. When they were bored with that, they decided to sit under the table. I thought at least they were out of sight until they started to shake the table and nearly turn it over. As if that weren't enough, they decided it would be fun to take off our shoes despite me telling them not to. They played with their food and gum and spilled drinks all over the table. My mother couldn't take it anymore so we left. I couldn't believe that none of the three sets of parents attempted to correct their behavior. They are wild children. I felt so bad for the waiters.

Also, smaller dogs will be put in harnesses of sorts because if you were to put a leash on their collar you could snap their neck.
Many dogs are put into harnesses.
Now I'm not saying it';s ok to put a child in a harness because I think that's awful, but it's not an accurate comparison to say you wouldn't put a dog in a harness, why a child.

I have a 12.5 year old golden retriever. He has some sort of a thyroid problem and it makes his neck kind of swollen and he coughs a lot - he can't wear a collar at all, so if we are taking him out anywhere we have to put a harness on him too. He chokes if you put him in a collar - and hes a big dog.

Honestly I think it has to do with the parents. SO many people have kids these days that shouldn't. My mom is a retired elementary school teacher and some of the stories she told were horrendous. This weekend she actually re-told a story of a mother who never had time for basic things for her kid. You know how in elementary school kids bring in cupcakes and stuff for birthday parties? This one kid's mother sent in a box of cake mix and icing and wrote a note to my mom "bake cupcakes with the class for __________ birthday". I don't like many young children these days because of the way they are raised. I don't think I could really work with kids even though I am a Social Worker. I prefer working with adults, even though a lot of them can be worse then children sometimes.

All the same, I think there are certian things that kids do, just because that's what kids do. Don't you remember trying as hard as you could to get out of the watchful eye of your parents? I went on lots of trips as a kid where there were other families with kids. My sister and I would make up excuses to go off by ourselves, or sometimes we would just sneak away. Running up and down hallways in hotels was *the* funnest thing around, as far as I was concerned (until Mom curtailed things). We weren't bad kids, and they aren't bad parents, but we were having fun. Sometimes, I think we forget that kids need to run around, be loud and have fun.
