Alpha Chapters

Which GLOs still have active Alpha (first) chapters? Many Alphas seem to have closed.

Our Alpha Chapter at Boston U is back and running. I know it closed for awhile, but I think that is because Boston got rid of all Greek Life in the late 70's-80s.
Can anyone confirm that, btw?

Our first chapter, Pennsylvania Alpha, was founded at Jefferson College. It merged with Washington College, also in Washington County, Pennsylvania. Our two chapters merged, and it is known as Pennsylvania Alpha and considered our mother chapter.

Alpha Phi's Alpha chapter has been up and running since September 18, 1872.

Tri Delta's Alpha chapter turned in its charter in 1970. Apparently it wasn't demanded by the BU administration, though. According to the 1988 History of Tri Delta,

"In the latter part of the 1960s, the climate for fraternities at Boston deteriorated steadily. Declining numbers of rushees, apathy, and fewer members all contributed to the discouragement. In the fall of 1970, when Alpha Phi and Kappa Kappa Gamma closed their Boston chapters, Alpha Chapter, with only seven members returning to school, decided to ask the Executive Board to withdraw its charter too."

Alpha was reinstalled in 1984.

ZTA's founding chapter at Longwood College closed for a while, but is back up and running.

Alpha Sigma Phi's Alpha chapter at Yale is up and running currently, after an absence of many years.

The Alpha chapter of Beta Theta Pi is alive and well at Miami(OH)

SAI's Alpha Chapter, at University of Michigan, is alive and well, has been since our founding in 1903.

Our first chapter was the Psi Chapter at Univ of Arkansas in 1895 which is still active!

Our Alpha Chapter is still active. I'm a product of it as if you couldn't tell from my Sig. Phi Beta Sigma's Alpha Chapter is active as well.

The Alpha chapter of Farmhouse is strongly alive and well @Mizzou....and I'm assuming that they're still in the original house, maybe FAB can help me out with this one

This may be the case w/ DDD, but I do know for a fact that the new president installed at the time was systematically eliminating Greek life as part of his administration. (I know because he ws still the prez during my years there and I asked him personally. ) There's a whole mish-mash of reasons why, depending on who you ask. DDD must have been a bit more proactive than most if they withdrew on their own. If they hadn't, the administration would have eventually taken it from them. That's probably where the idea came from.

The Alpha Chapter at NYU was founded on March 17, 1917. It closed in the 1960s or 70s. It reopened in the 1980s.
