Alpha Chapters
Which GLOs still have active Alpha (first) chapters? Many Alphas seem to have closed.

Our Alpha Chapter at Boston U is back and running. I know it closed for awhile, but I think that is because Boston got rid of all Greek Life in the late 70's-80s.
Can anyone confirm that, btw? |
Phi Kappa Psi
Our first chapter, Pennsylvania Alpha, was founded at Jefferson College. It merged with Washington College, also in Washington County, Pennsylvania. Our two chapters merged, and it is known as Pennsylvania Alpha and considered our mother chapter.

Alpha Phi's Alpha chapter has been up and running since September 18, 1872. :)

Tri Delta's Alpha chapter turned in its charter in 1970. Apparently it wasn't demanded by the BU administration, though. According to the 1988 History of Tri Delta, "In the latter part of the 1960s, the climate for fraternities at Boston deteriorated steadily. Declining numbers of rushees, apathy, and fewer members all contributed to the discouragement. In the fall of 1970, when Alpha Phi and Kappa Kappa Gamma closed their Boston chapters, Alpha Chapter, with only seven members returning to school, decided to ask the Executive Board to withdraw its charter too." Alpha was reinstalled in 1984. |
ZTA's founding chapter at Longwood College closed for a while, but is back up and running.
