Violent School Bus Beating Caught On Video

POSTED: 5:02 p.m. EST November 7, 2003
UPDATED: 6:14 p.m. EST November 7, 2003

PALM BAY, Fla. -- This was no typical after school fight. Palm Bay Police say it's one of the worst beatings they've ever seen. A student repeatedly punched a boy on the bus until he was too tired to hit his victim anymore.

The bus driver immediately radioed for police when the violence began and they hauled that student off to jail. This all happened as the Palm Bay High School students were on their way home from school Thursday afternoon.

Police investigators were shocked when they saw the severity of the violent attack caught on tape. It all starts innocently enough. A student sitting in the back throws a small football or paper wad toward the front of the bus.

"We don't know if there's any background between the two young people," says Lt. Dave Crispin, Palm Bay Police Department.

I went to Palm Bay High School! And I used to ride the bus before I could drive. I hardly remember many fights at all. Maybe 1 or 2 a semester, and I never heard of one on a bus. I hope that poor kid is OK. As for the other one, I hope his punk a$$ is looking at some time in juvie. Assault and battery, nice way to start your record. What is wrong with kids these days?

Half way through my time as a middle school student, all buses whcih I too rode till I got my license, were equipped with areas for a video camera. The bus drive told us that she never knew when the camera was in there, as it was videotaping actions of the bus drivers as well. My buss drive was the same bus driver I had had since i was in Kindergarten, as was the case with a lot of us,so we knew she didnt put up with anything, so there was no violence on MY bus.....I think the most that did happen was the occassional back talk to teh driver(usually from a non-regular ridign the bus) when told to stay seated, or the occasional curse word that was said a lil too loudly.

However violence is unfortunately becoming almost an epidemic of a problem. My senior year had a record number of fights at my high school, so much so that students were encouraged to press charges (and often did).

Holy sh*t! Egregious and unnecessary a**-whippin'. All over being flicked with a paper football? Throw the book at the little sack o' sh*t! And take the parents with him, too.

I always love the kids who say THIS whenever they get into an altercation

"My mama said not to stand down to nobody, no matter how old he is or how big"

Of course, many kids at the school I worked at interpeted that as "Don't do what the teacher says and always yell back at her", but apparently this is supposed to be a good lesson.
