SDT sarah and 33 girl I appreciate you help in defending DG. Although I shouldn't have to defend it to ANYONE. I know our girls did an awsome job and I don't want anyone cutting on them. I don't know why things are so screwed up but I believe the problem is with the system and probably not specific soroties. I'm sorry if I have "ruffled some feathers" but this is my opinion

chapters that have to worry about double rushing meaning they don't have a competitive size with other chapters

Are you kidding me????

Take UCF for example where most chapters are at or above total. Before the end of each school year, your chapter has about 150-160 members. Then, the seniors leave which drops the chapter down to about 120-130 members. Rush begins. There are 1100 PNM's going through and ten sororities. That's 110 girls per party. This chapter also has girls out of the house who are on recruitment exec, panhellenic exec, and Rho Gamma's. This could drop a chapter to about 100 members during rush. This is how double rushing occurs! When I went through rush and while I participated in rush over the past couple of years, all the top chapters on our campus (who were waaaay above total) had to double rush. There are more PNM's than sorority members.

Maybe you should look at the school's chapter total and the number of PNM's going through recruitment before you make a narrow-minded comment.

EXCELLENT POINT! Although other people here may have been advisors somewhere...we don't know what happened on this particular day, behind those particular doors. It is unfortunate, but you know what? SH*T HAPPENS! I do think that the matter should be further explored by NPC to see if there is a valid reason for the events. Because the truth is, WE DON'T KNOW WHAT REALLY HAPPENED!

As many people have pointed out, it only takes one rush to make or break a chapter. For the most part, a chapters make-up varies year to year!

I'm proud of my UGA DG's and know that they got the 14 best girls for our organization! All the rest is just hoo-ha!

Greetings!! I just wanted to jump in with a few extra ideas, not just for this particular situation, but that I think can apply elsewhere. It is good to talk about ways to refine the process, and I glad that NPC has begun an evalutaion. I definitely agree that sometimes that things just happen. There is so much that can be predicted about recruitment, and so many things that cannot. I really think luck/chance is a part of all of this. Even strong chapters can have an off year and other chapters a stellar year. There are so many variables!!

Anyway, I think that it is never unreasonable to evaluate all aspects of recruitment each year to evaluate the process. Sometimes even little tweaks can make a big difference. Looking at when quota is set and how release figures/return rates are used are good places to start in any system to try and minimize the things than can just happen. Change what can be changed if need be!

According to the Greek Book, quota can be set entering the second invititational round, before Round 3 because Round 1 (Open House) is not invitational, for example. This can help if a lot of drops occur in the first two days. Quota is more realistic.

The Greek advisor can also work with the chapters on release figures. If a chapter is consistently in the high 90s or at 100 percent for a round, the Greek advisor can ask that they stick to this value and not keep more. The really strong chapters keeping extra girls will only hurt the girls. Many will keep the stronger chapters, even if they are not a good fit, but in reality they may not even have a chance for a bid. That sometimes happen with all of the strong chapters looking at the same girls, and many going bidless. The girls wil not have more chances to look at other groups. For chapters with lower rates, the Greek advisor can work with a chapter allowing it to keep more girls if they would like, even above the release figures. This does not mean that everyone has to be asked back every round, but it gives more flexibility to the chapter leadership and their advisors to do what is best.

It seems logical that these things will occur everywhere, but in my experience, they don't. Even little changes like these have helped Valpo. Maybe they can help others.

Regardless of what has really happened at UGA, I hope all of the chapters are proud of their members and the effort they all put into recruitment. Have a fabulous new member period!!!!

I just received an email from one of the AOII advisers at UGA, they have 60 wonderful PNMs.....so I am pretty sure her word is reliable since she is an adviser there.

Sad to say (only because I sooooooooooooooooo wanted her to go Gamma Phi as did her mom), y'all (AChiO) got the daughter of my pledge sister Although she told her mom she really was torn between Gamma Phi and AChiO, she felt like her home was AChiO -- her mom and I are glad she is happy, but still a bit sad she is not a Gamma Phi, y'know what I mean.

I think y'all (AChiO) also pledged another doll I wrote rec on: Katie Kirby.

I got fed up not knowing about Sigma Kappa at UGA so I emailed them. They made quota plus. Thought I'd let everyone know.
