Wish me luck...
I've been working on a contract basis for the past few months. My contract expires at the end of the month.
I'm currently in the process of negotiating for a renewal of my contract. I'm also trying to get an increase in my pay rate, as I now have a certification in the work I'm doing.
Trouble is, one of the decision-makers is out on vacation next week, so I'm not going to know anything, probably until my current contract has already lapsed.
I also think they think I'm too naive to ask for more money. 
So, wish me good luck at the bargaining table. I will need it.

Well... unfortunately, I learned today that my contract will not be renewed beyond the end of next week.
There has been a big shake-up in management, and the new guy is trying to get his cronies in place, so... out I go. I'm not the first, and I probably won't be the last.
Fortunately, job prospects look a little better than they did last summer (the last time I was out of work) so I hope to find something soon. Meantime, I think I can go back on unemployment; I'm working on starting up a sideline business doing web design and hosting (anyone need a website?  ), and I have a few pet projects to keep me busy.
And on a more short-term note, I'm currently enjoying a large martini
Faith manages. This too shall pass.
