Pi Phi Rush Advice
Hi Pi Phis,
I thought this would be a good place to look for advice:
I'm a freshman in college and I'm planning on rushing Pi Phi this spring term (starts in 2 weeks). A lot of people related to me and close to my families were Pi Phi, including my god-mother, who is the main person who has encouraged my rushing there. I'm looking forward to rushing, but I kind of have my heart set on Pi Phi, which has a great reputation on my campus (its top 3). My legacy, however, is not for Pi Phi (its for KD, which I'm not interested in joining here). Since the chapter on my campus is so good, I have a feeling its pretty selective. I have several recommendations, three I think, but again I'm not a legacy.... do any of you have any advice for rushing Pi Phi, what they would be looking for, things I should/shouldn't say during rush?
Thanks so much!

What school do you attend? And are you going through informal or formal recruitment?

Yes, give us a little more information. Is your school southern or northern? Large or small? Is this formal or informal rush? All are important to know in determining what to do.

Sorry,
I go to UCLA, which is very big, and spring rush here is informal, I think.... but its not like COB or anything, its actual rush.
Thanks

Hey,
you can get your pi phi connections (god-mother, etc) to fill out a RIF form for you, that should give you preference, I think. (Correct me if I'm wrong, angels).
ppl,
C.

Is Pi Phi participating in spring recruitment? If they are, it sounds like you have started down the right track. You have several Recs for Pi Phi. If you know an active Pi Phi at UCLA, I would let her know that you are interested in rushing.
I have written many recs, but when my goddaughter/daughter/relative goes through recruitment I would put in a personal call to the chapter president/membership chair. Maybe your godmother could do that.
Though each chapter is different Pi Phi looks for young ladies who are well rounded: solid academically, school involvement, solid peronality.
On most campuses, a positive Rec/RIF will get you atleast an invite to the first inivtation only round... i.e All PNMs attend open house, a REC/RIF will often get you an invite to second day parties... to allow the sisters to get to know you better and out of respect for the sister who wrote the rec.
I am glad that you are interested in Pi Phi, if there are any additional question you have, please do not hesitate to ask. There are many wonderful sorority members on this board that are always willing to help. Please remember to keep an open mind.

I think Angels&Arrows has given you some great advice! Speaking as a membership chair, other than making sure you get your RIFs taken care of, I think it would really help to have your godmother call. It always looks good when someone makes the extra effort.
Other than that, just be yourself! Informal rush is a great time to shine and get to know the sisters better! Let us know how it goes!

Thats Me:
If it weren't for my best friend (who's also a PiPhi, but at UCI), I would've never seen this post because I'm not active on this site at all. But I'm so glad that she told me about this post because I'm a PiPhi at UCLA! I would love to answer any questions that you may have about spring rush. I can tell you right now that PiPhi is very excited about spring rush and cannot wait to meet all you girls.
PiPhi love and mine,
Jenni
