Talking California rushees

I was reading the " to all sorority girls..." thread and I was wondering how important recommindations are in the rush process in California. I spoke to the Office of Student Life at the Berkeley campus a while back and they said it was not needed and many rushees don't have them at all. But this posts have got me thinking if I should worry about them. I have about 5-6 I could get from family and friends if need be. Also, what about resumes are they only needed in certain areas of the country that have highly competitive rushes like the South. (I didn't ask about that when I called Berekley) I will be a junior transfer next fall at either UC Berkeley (MY NO.1 CHOICE), UC Davis, or UCLA. A while back I asked about the difficulty of rushing as a junior which I am totally paraniod about but it doesn't seem as harshly critiqued in large UC campuses that are use to a large influx of tranfer students. Anyway, my question is to CA greeks or anyone who might have insight if such things are required to rush and their experience. I just keep thinking it's only 5/6 months away...

Thanks!!

i think you should send in recs (if people are offering to write them), regardless of what the school told you. my college said a similar thing. now that i've seen rush from the inside, what they tell rushees isn't exactly the whole truth. while you don't NEED to have a rec in order to get a bid, if you do send one in, that chapter will take an extra look at you, and it might even boost your score a bit. it helps to get you noticed, especially at schools where rush is big.

Wow, I looked at that site and let me just say again: WOW! Man, first, I would be very intimidated to go thru recruitment at such a large school, second, those girls are so California pretty, I would feel like a total freak coming in with my NYC black and doom!!LOL. Also, those houses are GORGEOUS!!!!

According to NPC policy, recommendations are the responsibility of the sorority chapater, not the rushee. Also, the recs should not be sent to the chapter by the rushee - they should be sent to the chapter by the person making the recommendation.

All 26 national groups have policies and/or forms in place for letters of reference (which is the new NPC term for these letters).
