Question Sorority Termination

Hey, I have recently been terminated from my sorority. I don't want to go into the details, but I contacted the national headquartes of the sorority I'm in and they told me that I could appeal my termination. The problem I am having is whether or not I should appeal it or not. If I appeal and my appeal is accepted, does this mean I will be considered a sister again? Also, I want to rejoin, but some of the girls don't like me and I don't like them. I don't mind paying dues, but it would save me so much money if I didn't come back. I do like some of the girls and I want to be able to work in recruitment and eventually get a little. Plus I love my big so much she is so amazing! Please help, I know I am all over the place lol! Have a great day yall!

Hi! In all honesty, if you wanted to do all of those things, you probably should not have terminated. The decision to accept your appeal is likely up to your National Headquarters. The choice to appeal is up to you and is a really personal decision, and one we cannot help you to decide! Have a great day!

You have "been" terminated. I'm thinking it's not a lead pipe cinch that you would be reinstated even if you did appeal.

IMHO, *if* you were to be reinstated, you would need to be a model active from then on until you graduate.

Hmm...she said, "I have recently been terminated from my sorority." Unfortunately, it sounds, to me, like she wasn't the acting party here.

Am I understanding that correctly, Leonia22?

You have to ask your National HQ those questions. They have the information you need.

Totally agree. Unless your chapter sisters terminated you for a policy out of their control (I.e $ or grade issuers), even if you were reinstated, it might be uncomfortable, to say the least.

Yes I was terminated. Which means I had done something that the standards board of my chapter felt represented us wrong. I really love the sorority and I just don't want to leave it this way. I made a mistake that many girls in college make, but I don't want to be looked at as if the whole situation that happened is my fault. What led to my termination for the most part was out of my control. If I do appeal my termination, I wonder if they will allow me to stay apart of the sorority I am in or just terminate me.

Leonia, it sounds like you were terminated (or have been recommended for termination) "for cause". And honestly, that's not something that we can help you with here; it is an internal matter and is chapter business. I'm very sorry. You will need to file an appeal according to the procedures for your sorority. That is the only hope you have of maintaining your membership.

I agree 33girl. It is probably going to be extremely uncomfortable, but I really want to stay in, because I haven't been able to enjoy most of it yet. Also, I am not just going to give up that easily, if I can do something about by status. Thanks for all the replies btw

Sorry AZTheta, I'm not trying to tell all of my business or anything, I just honestly didn't know who else to ask. Plus I wanted to here from other girls who might have experienced this as well.

Leonia22: While I realize that it is hard to convey feelings through an internet post, it appears that you are not remorseful for what happened and you are also refusing to take responsibility for your actions. Without sincerely conveying regret for your actions and taking responsibility, I doubt that your termination review would end favorably for you. Do some soul searching and see if you can't change your attitude before you try to file an appeal.

FSUZeta, I'm sorry if it comes off that way! but I do feel bad about what happened. I honestly did not know how to handle the situation. I also stated that I made a mistake. I shouldn't have been there in the first place and none of this would have happened, but I was and now I have to deal with the consequences. Do I think I should receive some form of punishment for what I've done? Yes, I totally deserved to be in trouble, but what I didn't expect was the termination. Like I said, sorry if I sound like I don't care, I just don't want to go into so much detail.

As a former alumna standards advisor, my advice is to reach out to your standards board and your alumnae who advise in that area. Ask for a face to face meeting. If there are extenuating circumstances or information they may not have access to, present your case. Do not lie, accept your responsibility, do not blame others. State what you have learned, how you plan to make amends, and what your sorority membership means to you.

It may not go in your favor, but you will know you have done what you can. At this point in the situation, it may be too late with membership already terminated, but that may depend on the org. At the least, you may leave knowing you did what you could. Good luck. College is a difficult time in many ways, and as a mom, I hope you move forward wiser and safer.

Follow the procedure your national has laid out. That is your only option. We can't help you.
