My daughter was stunned and the pledge clearly upset she can't continue. My daughter feels terrible for this girl, but very upset that this pledge took the spot of a girl who really wanted to be in her sorority. I know Panhellenic and every sorority make the financial commitment very clear at the get go, but I know this still happens and it's a lose-lose for everyone involved. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it somehow works our for all parties involved.

It was kind of bogus for her to go to bid day, but she may have felt she didn't have any other chance to explain to the members why she wasn't taking her bid. The chapter should have a list of women at the ready to accept that bid - including upperclass friends of sisters who didn't rush, as well as unbidded women who went through formal.

Seriously, drop out BEFORE they've decorated a bunch of stuff with your name on it!!!
Anyone have news on Phi Sig? I couldn't find that much info on the website without registering as an interested PNM.

I think their Facebook will probably have the best info for the public: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Phi-S...01482726558953
As a recent colony member at Illinois, I wish them well!
If the number on the Panhellenic Facebook page was right, 1000 PNMs received bids leaving about 360. I know that not all 360 will be interested in colony recruitment, and of course, there will be many others Phi Sig PNMs who didn't go through at all...but based on that number, I think that a new colony will be very beneficial to the school!

A few more *unofficial* numbers from picture counts:
Kappa Alpha Theta 57
Gamma Phi Beta 54
Delta Delta Delta 54
Chi Omega is 56 per their Twitter
Pi Beta Phi is actually 57--not 55 that I counted

What happened to the Phi Sig house on Greek Park? Do they still own it? Anyone know what their housing plans are?

What a shame for all concerned. I hope that everything works out so that the new member can remain a member.
And congratulations to GreenTeaGirl on her Sigma Kappa bid!

When I was there (and I think it's still the case) is yes they still own their house but FIJI is renting it. That info is as old as 2010 though. I can't imagine it has changed much but I would have no idea when they would plan to move in again. They could have it ready to go now for all I know!
My cousin's future niece went Gamma Phi!

Congratulations to all the wonderful chapters at Illinois and to all their new members! Just from a casual look around FB and talking to friends, I've seen young women I know as new members of SDT, Tri Delt, AEPhi and - hooray - DG too! I'm sure there are more I just haven't heard about yet.
Congratulations to all the PNMs (and their nervous moms) here on GC on finding their new homes! Best wishes.
