mtv and sororities...
After seeing the commercial for it, I feel for each of my friends in the WGLOs if this show is as bad as I think it is..

I'm totally not interested in seeing that GARBAGE! And why are they dealing with WGLOs? We have a totally different views than them.

We got a National Directive to not respond to MTV if they approached us. I believe all four orgs did, but I could be wrong. I don't trust MTV to do a fair representation of Sorority life anyway. The last show they did that I LIKED was Flipped and that hasn't been on in a long time.

I'm taking this show for what it is.....ENTERTAINMENT. To me, its no different that than watching the MTV Spring Break(Folks in their letters doing all kinds of crazey mess on camera). I do plan to watch it though.

Now I know someone watched the show. LOL
I saw like 10 minutes of it. It's interesting to see how THEY do it. LOL. I saw the part where the girls were getting ready to go to the rush, the rush, the meeting, the "vote". I was at the way the members go to the apartments/homes/dwellings of those they chose to give them their invite.

I plan to watch the rest of the series. At my HBCU, the sorority members did something like this too in regards to delivering invites.
I watched it and liked that show. It was interesting to see how the "other half" does things.

I watched the show and I thought it was good to see how other organizations did their membership process. I think the fact that is was a Jewish sorority made it very interesting to me. To see them struggle with the decision to offer bids to non Jews and people who didn't even know about the Jewish religion added an extra element that I could relate to. I am not a member of a BGLO or any greek organization but I would have trouble welcoming people into any organization that I am apart of who know nothing about its basis. One of the girls didn't even know that Jewish people don't beleive Jesus is the messiah. I also find it odd that MTV would pick a Jewish sorority. I would think they would stick to a more mainstream White sorority to mirror the majority of their viewing population. But I like that they chose that sorority becuase it adds a little diversity to their programming.

I don't think they "picked" a group as much as they had to find a group that would allow them to tape them - from what I understand this particular chapter is a local and not a national sorority so they didn't have anyone telling them not to do it! NPC and NPHC sororities were directed not to do it from headquarters. I didn't watch it, but I plan on seeing some of the shows.

These pledges need an old-school SESSION
WTF?
I was LMP&GAO last night during this show.
Sorors, I don't care if you pledged old school or MIP....y'all know we would have NEVER gotten away this any of this kind of mess.
Those little girls were in that house for about 15 minutes before they broke out with the booze and started inviting boys over. In the meantime, the "big sisters" were at the house preparing "the rules". Then, the pledges started tripping about the rules saying they are "grown women"...blah...blah...
So, the big sisters rolled through the house at 1pm...the pledges were out getting their party ON. The "pledgemaster" leaves a sweet note..."we came by, you weren't here...have a nice weekend"....WTF?
I did see one similarity with BGLO's...the whole debate about accepting girls who aren't Jewish. I understood the members who felt very strongly about not accepting non-jewish girls. Why would they want to be in a Jewish sorority, with Jewish ideals and rituals if they don't share that faith? One of the pledges even admitted that she didn't even know that Jews believe that Jesus is not the Messiah...and was laughing her tail off about not knowing.
Then, one of the members started on a debate about not wanting to be "exclusive". How ridiculous. Of course you want to be "exclusive". Do you just want to accept "anybody"? I liked the one member who said "I don't care if they leave....F them".
Oh....if they only knew.....

LMAO
This show had me CTFU. My Line Sister had to call me and verify that I was indeed watching it, because it was just too much to miss.
First, I WISH we could try and have not a sorority house, but A PLEDGE HOUSE hahahahahah! That just would not float. I could see it now, Oh LAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWD! And I wish that "little sisters" would have the nerve to complain about rules and then get their DRANK on up in it. This was just too much to me!
I could feel them on the Jewish issue, and i had the same reply to "lets not be exclusive" deal. I was like, "Is she twisted?!"
Anywyay, on the whole I don't think MTV did anything exploitive or wrong, I just think these girls (especially the pledges ) were off the chain!

Exactly, this is not the "other half" this is the "local half". At least NPC sororities have rules and show some discretion. If you look in the "Greek Life" section, the discussion on this show has been going on for some time now. Talk of how many NPC Sororities were contacted and couldn't respond nor did they want to. There is a link somewhere to the Sororities website (the one on MTV) and their reasons for why they wanted to take part in this show. They also explain how they don't want to alienate the national sororities or be thought less of for taking part in this show. They are looking for exposure. The same things go on with the locals at my school. They will wear their letters to the bar and anywhere else you can think of that will give them exposure. They wanted to put all of our letters on shot glasses to give out to new students in the fall, it was the NPHC and IFC organizations who disagreed, all of the locals thought it was "cute". The IFC and NPHC organizations don't behave in this manner. I have too many other local greek horor stories. The biggest problem for the NPC sororities is that they are worried people will confuse this jewish sorority for an NPC or what we call "WGLO". People have already begun grouping the 2 together so I can't blame them for being worried. I doubt MTV will take the time to explain the difference between "Nationals" and "Locals". NPC sororities aren't even allowed to drink alcohol at Rush parties.

Very True,
You know I could not pass up the chance to watch this and the only reason those girls were not punished for not being in the house was because they were on TV. Whatever you believe the fact of the matter is A LOT Of people are going to take this as thier reality of what sorority Life is like. Yes, even some people of African decent will think this is the way it is. Please let us never forget when one messes up we all get hurt in some way!

A sisterfriend's perspective.............
I watched the entire thing and I was tripping a little. I was really feeling like "Gimmie a break ." when they were going on about how they felt some of the people were present just for the exposure. My thought was "Aren't you guys looking to recieve the same thing?" I also thought it was amazing that they get a "pledge house" It was off the chain, complete with gift bags. The pledges threw me when they said that the rules suck and they went on and on about how they were grown women...Didn't they except thier bids? Didn't they agree to become pledges?I'm curious to see how it all unfolds. All in all I believe MTV did what they planned to do......Get us all to watch.
