Scary hostess's name is Giuliana Rancic, she hosts several programs on the E! network. Whenever she reports from the red carpet she always asks stars about their diet and fitness regimes. You can't tell tonight, but she looks extremely orange when standing next to fair-skinned celebs!

I'm rooting for Alabama and have been all night!

I think they all did pretty well considering they don't get a lot of time to 1. think about their answer and then 2. to say their answer. I don't think I could do what they do. (But I also know that these women have trained for YEARS).

I agree. It has to be tough. I just couldn't believe some of the stupid questions (not the answers). I'm cheering her on! Let's go Macon Magnolias!!!

I know...I was bummed that neither a Phi Mu or an Alpha Gamma Delta won. Boo, on that! Congrats to all the lovely ladies, though!

Yes, she managed it well.. she did the politically correct, totally diplomatic thing. Last year, it was Miss California who answered honestly but not diplomatically that marriage should be between a man and a woman which caused a maelstrom in the media. That's why I say she managed her question well. The judges don't want to hear the truth, they want to hear a diplomatic answer.

Agreed. She just looks weird to me, and I can't exactly pinpoint what skeeves me about about her. I think it's a combination of things. Though, they were talking about her on the radio today, and they were talking about her reality show she had with her husband (Bill Rancic). Apparently they were trying to get pregnant and her doctors kept telling her that it would never happen unless she gained weight.

Well if she actually listens and gains weight she might get pregnant instead of always talking about how she isn't getting pregnant on their reality show.

Sorry it kind of bugs me when a doctor tells you how to improve your chances of conceiving and instead of doing what the doctor has said you want to moan and groan and whine and complain because you aren't getting pregnant. (My SIL is one of those people, so I've got some first hand knowledge on this stuff).

I can't agree more. Though it's a bit different, I have a friend who wants to get pregnant but doesn't want to stop smoking. So, she complains that she can't start trying because she can't stop smoking yet. Priorities, people!

She may be one of those people who struggles to gain even the smallest amount of weight.

For what it's worth, from her wikipedia page:

Her doctors had recommended that she gain weight in order to increase the chances of pregnancy. In February 2010, she stated that she had gained five pounds, and was working on gaining more weight.The couple began in vitro fertilization (IVF) in March 2010,and got pregnant in the spring of 2010, however Giuliana suffered a miscarriage at eight weeks.Rancic had an IVF transfer for a second time in November 2010, however the procedure did not result in a pregnancy.

That is my brother and SIL. The doctor told them to cut out alcohol (they aren't alcoholics but they drink pretty heavily, especially on the weekends) and change their diets and exercise. Neither one did this. My brother isn't the one who is complaining, it is my SIL, who quite honestly, has turned into a raving bee-otch because she isn't "knocked up" yet.

My friends and I have examined the weirdness of Gilliana and it's her head that gives her this strange alien-like look.

NBC was really self-promoting in their hosts and judges for the Miss USA pageant:

Andy Cohen - Host & Exec. Producer of all the "Housewives" shows on Bravo, which NBC owns
Guliana Ransic - Comcast owns the E! Network (where Guliana has a couple of shows) and Comcast just bought a major chunk of NBC. Plus, her husband, Bill, won the 1st season of NBC's "The Apprentice"
Kelly Osborne - she's a host on E!'s "Fashion Police and her mom is a judge on NBC's "America's Got Talent"

Rocco DiSpirito - had a show on NBC called "The Restaurant" (few years ago); has appeared several times on "The Biggest Loser" & "Top Chef"; now has a show on Bravo called "Rocco's Dinner Party"
Lil Jon - was a finalist on this season's "Celebrity Apprentice"
Penn Jillette - was a guest judge on this season's "The Next Great American Restaurant" (NBC) and was the host of the short-lived NBC game show "Identity"
1 of the Housewives of New Jersey -- on NBC-owned Bravo
(a few other judges too, but these have a NBC-affiliation)

Odd combo of judges! No former Miss USA as judges (though 1 as a host) and only 1 person from the beauty industry (the CEO of OPI nail products). Can't believe there weren't more judges from the fashion or beauty industries.

If they wanted other NBC stars as judges (with more credentials to judge a pageant) , they could have gotten people like:
Kathie Lee Gifford (was Miss Maryland for America's Junior Miss)
Amy Robach (Today show reporter & 1st runner-up Miss Georgia 1994)
Kit Hoover (co-host on NBC's "Access Hollywood" ... & a Chi Omega)
Jenna Dewan (starring in the fall NBC show "The Playboy Club" ... & a Pi Beta Phi). NBC could promote their fall lineup.
Angela Kinsey (stars in "The Office" ... & is a Chi Omega)

P.S. On a Greek note, Kathie Lee Gifford's daughter will be starting college Fall 2011 and I'm sure will be going thru Recruitment. I know they visited USC (where Cassidy's father & brother are in the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity) and Chapman University.

It's kind of fun that the old Miss Tennessee, an Alpha Gam from U of Memphis, got to crown the new Miss Tennessee, a sister from her own chapter.
