I'm going to toss in boring sockpuppets as a pet peeve.

/talks on phone when checking out sometimes
//doesn't actually 'talk' just maintains the phone call and splits my attention
A sign like that is totally appropriate to me. It's far more inappropriate to get up to the window/counter while deep in conversation on the phone. Either get off the phone or put the conversation on hold for the 10.5 seconds it takes to place your order at McDonald's. Not hard.

My new pet peeves:
-Bragging about money/possessions. I was raised to believe that's rude. Even if you don't think it's rude, it seems like common sense that no one gives a shit about your Yurman collection or how much your highlights cost.

-Not using blinkers. A blinker takes a small hand movement. Just use it.

-Bragging about the quantity of alcohol/drugs consumed the night before. That was cool at 16.

-People who are too easily offended. They also tend to be those who cannot recognize humor or sarcasm. Pick your battles.

-Wedding freaks. Yes it is very important and I am happy to be supportive and excited for you. But realize I have a life too and it's just as important as yours.

-The "your life is so easy you have no idea" or "I've been through so much more than you" people. First, never assume that to be true. Some of us are private, so you really have no idea what we have or haven't been through. Second, hardship shouldn't be competitive.

-The "I'm so fat" girls. I have only heard this phrase from people who are at the most chubby. You're not fat. You're just not at the weight you want to be at...so instead of being whiny, do something about it.

-Prom dos, neon dresses, and formal dresses with huge cut outs. This is the one bit of snobbery I will probably never rid myself of. I cringe at crunchy corkscrew curls, traffic cone orange dresses with rhinestones, and dresses cut to reveal belly buttons piercings.

And lastly...

-"All you do is draw, how can you complain about schoolwork?" GNRJWKGLNJDKSGNFJDNGSD. Jesus. If I were going to school until 26 to get three different degrees it wouldn't be to "just draw". I spend hours and hours a week in my studio...and nothing less would get me a B or better. I would in fact find it FAR easier for me to memorize facts or write papers.

This is why I like theater majors. They tend to be dramatic, but at least they get it.

As mentioned before, I am a woman of many peeves:

*People who talk about their kids all the time and have no life outside of them. If you ask how they're doing, they say "Suzie lost a tooth the other day." They've given up on anything that resembles an interest outside of their kids, even having a non-mom/dad role relationship with their spouses.

*When a single person cannot go anywhere without scoping out guys/girls. You know, the person who can't ever go anywhere without looking for potential boyfriends/girlfriends.

*People who comment out loud on the prices of items in stores/restaurants. Again, with talking about money. Don't think that sweater should be $50? Keep it to yourself.

*Academic one-uppers whose major/graduate program is "sooo much more demanding" than yours.

*Academic/Professional Debbie Downers who cannot wait for you to mention a career field you're interested in so they can tell you that 1.) not going to make money and 2.) there are "like nooo jobs around here." You probably are already aware of that, but Debbie can't wait to remind you of this every time you mention your future career.

*People who comment on how young I look. Yeah, I get it. I look 12. We'll see how funny it is when we're both 40.

*People who comment on my size and tell me I should "eat some food" and "real women have curves." So dumb. Yeah you're a "real woman" because you have muffin top and I don't.

*Facebook pictures of people kissing their significant others. It weirds me out. I get it. You make out with Bobby. The entire world does not need to know that.

*People who try to make everything about them. You know, center of attention-y type people who are really dramatic. I can't put my finger on it, but I know when people are doing it and it drives me crazy.

*Couples who have no individual interests and only hang out with other "approved" couples.

*People who graduated from HS and hang on to it like it was the best thing EVER. Like, HS was almost 10 years ago, and they still only hang out with the same 3 people and talk about stuff that happened almost 10 years ago, and think they're cool for being quarterback and Mr. NHS almost 10 years ago.

*When someone sees what I'm eating and mentions how they "don't like ______" or how it's really bad for you. Ok, cool because I didn't buy this for you.

*Vegans/vegetarians or other special diet people who talk about it all the time. Do you have to talk about how you don't eat meat when we're at the movies? I can see if we are in a setting where you have to tell someone that you don't eat meat. But the whole free world doesn't need to know every single day how cool you are for not eating meat.

*Pedestrians who aren't paying attention. Ex: Stepping out into a road on campus (not in the crosswalk), playing with your phone, not looking at what's coming, and expecting a car not to hit you.

This. I also hate it when someone tells me my food looks gross, especially with stuff like pizza. "Wow that's so greasy... Eww that looks disgusting." Um. thanks. I'm going to eat it anyway. Dare you to watch

People who see a cop and then go 10 under the speed limit. Seriously Mr. Cop is not going to pull you over for going the speed limit, I promise!

Interrupting people or talking while someone else is talking.(specifically in class towards professors) You may not find what they're saying interesting or valuable, but I do.

- People not using their turn signals
- Even more, people leaving their turn signals on for miles without needing to turn
- People that keep talking and talking even though you say you have to go
- When people (roommates) complain the place is dirty but have never cleaned it themselves
- When people walk really slow right down the middle of the sidewalk so you can't get past going in either direction
- When people take up the last seat on the bus with their backpack and there are older people standing

I can't believe no one's mentioned it yet.. People who push the elevator button more than once! The elevator isn't going to show up any faster if you push the button 6 times.
Also hate it when a group of people doesn't "adjust" for oncoming foot traffic. If you are with 4 people walking on a sidewalk, it is okay to walk side by side until someone else is walking toward you. In that case, form more of a line until everyone has passed. Drives me insane!! I was standing in a restaurant waiting on my carry-out order when a group of 3 didnt "adjust" and one walked right into me, even though I was standing against the wall and hadn't moved.

Yes!

When I was in Orlando, I was with my boss and we were driving to the airport. We approached a toll (there was only one booth) - which was $0.75. We only had bills on us, and we figured there would be a person working the toll booth. No one was there. We tried to look quickly for change in our purses (we knew we wouldn't find any in the rental car we were driving), but we only had a few nickles and some pennies between us, so after a minute or two, we just drove right through it.

Not since then had I ever come to a toll plaza where there wasn't at least one person working it.

Similar: People who walk in the road when there's a sidewalk or walk four across, blocking the road, and refuse to move. And the worst: the ones whose friends stop their ginormous SUVs in the middle of the road to have a conversation about Junior League.

This has been a complaint of mine about my hometown since the day I got my learner's permit. These women go walking with their BFFs in completely age inappropriate outfits (Another pet peeve...yes you have a great body for 50, but you're 50. It isn't appropriate to wear something so tiny I can see your bits.) four across on residential roads, when there is a sidewalk available a foot away 95% of the time...because the sidewalk can't accomodate their formation. They then refuse to move so that a car can pass them. And on occasion Mitsy will drive by, see Buffy, Honey, and BooBoo, and stop her suburban assault vehicle to squeal and launch into an intense conversation about her tennis instructor or whatever. Mitsy doesn't give a shit that there are 4 cars backed up behind her, because whatever conversation she's having is obviously FAR more important than whatever you're doing today.

Mitsy is probably the same woman who lets her children run around the restaurant in circles screaming. I know this is a common pet peeve but I strongly believe it is even more common in my hometown, especially in restaurants in the villages. Mitsy is obviously under the impression that her precious little nuggets are so amazing that all other patrons would be delighted to watch them frolic loudly, harass the staff, and break things.

(I went home yesterday, so this is probably more of a rant than pet peeve...*shudder*.)
