Release figures explanation

How sad is it that I didn't really know what this was until I started reading Greekchat and I'm about to be a SENIOR in my chapter! I know my campus uses it but I really don't know how it works.

I thought maybe it would be a good idea for PNMs/moms/etc to be able to read an explanation of it here from one of you lovely, knowledgeable GC ladies

I know it means that there are heavier cuts early on but surely there's more to it than that?

basically, the higher the chapters invitation acceptance rate, the less pnms they are allowed to invite back. it is a percentage and is based on several years worth of statistics. those chapters with a lower acceptance rate are allowed to invite back more pnms.

panhellenic does all the figuring and tells the chapters how many girls they may invite back each round.

There was really really good thread explaining it that I can't find right now. But basically, even I could understand release figures after reading it.

ETA: Found it!

This is the one I was thinking of, it was stickied in Recruitment Stories and not Sorority Recruitment which is why it took me so long to find it: NPC Quota, Release Figures and Quota Additions

This one will also have some relevant information: After Several Years: What Do You Think of the New Release Figures?

Sydney, that is why at the school I advise at we actually go through the entire process with the women prior to recruitment beginning so that they understand what is going to happen. The links above are very helpful and I think you'll get a good sense of how RFM's are done.

I read on one of the threads that the PNM's should be told about the RFM's and that probably each of them would probably get released from at least one chapter through recruitment. I think this is a good idea. I think a lot of PNM's are kept in the dark about how it actually all works and just because they rank a chapter last doesn't mean they wont get an invitation back.

I actually agree here.

You don't know how many times I've met a PNM who thought that ranking a chapter low meant they were "dropping" them and wouldn't be asked to come back.

Many of them don't understand the MUTUAL part of it. They think they're just "picking a sorority" or "picking the ones they like" when they make their ranked lists. Not so.

I think most are so caught up in recruitment that it's hard to settle down and actually think at the end of the day when they're ranking and, in theory, listening to their Pi Chis/Gamma Chis/ whatev.

Although there are some that you explain the whole process in depth and they'd still not have a clue.
