I don't know what the hell happened w/ the links. Grrrrrrrr
Yep, if it's anything like Miami, take them out. It's not lying, anymore than the sorority women not wearing what they would wear when they go out to a party is lying. Different things are appropriate at different times.
Stupid question, but can you slap Dermablend or another heavy foundation over a nose piercing (or any piercing) and cover it up that way? I would think the hole isn't going to grow closed if you've had it a while.

If her piercings are new-ish (I didn't catch if she said they are or not) then the foundation isn't a good idea. You don't want to get foreign substances in there. If they aren't new then it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
When I was going through rush I didn't take any of my piercings out. And one of my pledge sisters has her earlobes stretched and she didn't take those out. So for me it wasn't a super huge deal. But like others have said, if your campus is a conservative one your piercings could count against you if they aren't seen favorably.
And no on the plastic spacers; they look horrible and cheap. A small diamond or stud should suffice if you want to wear your jewelry.

Maybe my school and chapter is just different, but we don't tell you that we don't want you if you have piercings. I'd say maybe tone it down like with a small stud in your nose but I wouldn't tell you to put spacers in everywhere, because if they don't like your piercings during recruitment, why would they like them after?

I would echo those who said just put a stud in your nose - I think it can look very nice.
The lip piercing for me would be a no go. Honestly, I find it very distracting and having a rush-like conversation with someone I would just keep looking at it. I personally don't care what someone wants to do with their body, but the lip piercing would just be distracting to me.

My question stands, though, where is this piercing? She said she has a loop "through" her nose. I'm picturing a hoop through her nose like a ring through a bull's nose! I need more details.

Good point. I think the bull's nose piercing is pretty gross.

She could mean that she has a hoop ring going through her nose piercing (like the nostril). But yeah if she does have her septum pierced then a stud won't help much.

Yeah, that's why I asked, because it makes a huge difference in the advice we give. I guess she could get a small dumbbell shaped stud, but a septum piercing will be pretty out there with regard to piercings.

My friend has this and she can quite literally just turn it up in her nose to make it "disappear."

Now, I don't have anything serious. My lip is pierced, and I have a stud in it, I have a hoop through my nose, a belly ring, and one tattoo on my back so it's not visible.
But i'm nervous- there are only three sororities on campus, and I don't want to be cut just because I have them. But at the same time, i'm not willing to get rid of them just yet.
So, what would you say is the general feeling about body mods ?

I don't think all people would find you unacceptable or a phony if you had two piercings that were after you become a new member, I bet there are active members who tone down their look during recruitment. I can't count the number of women who get piercings or tattoos while active sorority members, but thinking of joining a sorority like an interview of sorts is not a bad idea. You want to be remembered for your accomplishments and conversation, perhaps as "erynnari, the woman who coordinated a meals on wheels program on bicycles and rollerskates to feed people as well as be environmentally friendly" and not "that girl with the facial piercings."
If you do wear the lip ring, please, whatever you do, do not play with it with your mouth. it may be a subconscious thing you wouldn't even realize you're doing, but it would probably not be a positive impression, and I can say it seriously skeeves me out.

OK, I just died laughing because on Family Guy tonight, Quagmire's dad had a sex change and he said that they pushed his penis up inside of him to make it disappear. GIGGITY GIGGITY GOO.

I know that my chapter is not discriminatory towards any body piercings or tattoos. A majority of my sisters have one or both of them. If a sorority decides not to give you a bid based on your appearance, then they aren't worth being a part of. Appearances are not the important part of being in a sorority; being willing to put your best foot forward and being a great sister are two of the most admiral qualities a girl can have. (:

I don't think most people would actually DISCRIMINATE based on appearances, but some piercings can be distracting (more so the lip stud than nose ring, depending on what either looks like of course).

Even a distraction of a piercing shouldn't matter. I mean, that is a personal opinion. If someone looks like they could scare me witless, but they would be a role model sister, I think I would be more inclined to give them a vote for a bid than say no.

You have to be careful giving that kind of advice to someone when you don't know the culture of the campus she will be attending. Not every campus is the same, and what will get you cut at her campus may be different than yours.
