Typically a new sorority on campus will do the following when colonizing in the Fall.
They will do PR as much as possible to PNM's and the campus and community before recruitment (with University permission). Then another chapter will come in for formal recruitment with the colonization team (made up of national officers and local alumnae). They will participate in the first round of recruitment. They will announce that they are a new sorority on campus and will be leaving the recruitment process after this round. They will announce their schedule which is probably right after formal recruitment. Then they have a few weeks, or all semester to do their colonization process.
This would usually consist of a PR week, then an open house, personal interviews, a preference party and then bid day. If they are not at total, they would keep recruiting up to total.

New DZ Colony
I know I am not a member of DZ but I know where another chapter of DZ is starting-they just got their approval and I think got pinned or something. I am not sure exactly what they went through last weekend but it was the first step. I am not sure if i want to ruin the surprise for you....

Re: ACK! Don't tell!!!!
But, Andi, I won't be there for that portion of Convention -- so I won't be able to find out in July! Come on, give us just a little hint.

It's nice to know DZ is officially coming to UF (I'm a Pi Phi there). I think it will be nice to have more sororities...the fraternities already outnumber us, so besides other things, this will ease Homecoming tension.
And about the large school thing, sure it's easy to forget a name here and there when you have so many sisters, but it works out better this way. If you want to get involved, you do, not just because you're forced to b/c there are too few of you to handle something.
And I heard a rumor that DZ might buy the land from AEPi and build a house by the Pi Phi house on Frat Row. So while we've been enjoying being the only sorority house on Frat Row since we got our new house like ten years ago, it would be nice to have some new neighbors at the bus stop.

I guess Council decided not to wait until Convention to announce our 3 Centennial Chapters. We received an announcement today of 3 Centennial Colonies to be established in the 2002-2003 academic year:
University of Florida - Pi Alpha Colony
University of Hartford - Pi Beta Colony
California State University, Northridge - Pi Gamma Colony
DZSAI already knew, and now DZRose, and Iowa--guess you know too!

It's no secret :)
I just got a letter today "announcing" the three Centennial Colonies, so I don't see how it's a secret
Here is my letter:
+++++++++++++
The National Council of Delta Zeta Sorority is very proud to announce three Centennial Colonies to be established in the 2002-2003 academic year.
University of Florida: Pi Alpha Colony
Florida is a highly competitive University of 47,000 students in Gainesville, Florida and known as the home of the "Gators". We are joining fifteen NPC groups with average chapter size of 156 women. Colonization will take place after formal recruitment in the fall of 2002.
University of Hartford: Pi Beta Colony
Hartford is a competitive, private University of 4,000 students in West Hartford, Connecticut. On May 4, 2002 an interest group of 25 exceptional women were pledged to Delta Zeta by the Beta Gamma women from the University of Connecticut. Chapter total is 50 and there are six NPC groups on campus. Additional recruitment will take place in the fall of 2002.
California State University, Northridge: Pi Gamma Colony
Northridge is a competitive University of 31,000 students located twelve miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles. The San Fernando Valley Alumnae Chapter has been supporting the National Center for Deafness on the Northridge Campus for the past 20 years. Average chapter size is 83 and there are five NPC groups. Colonization will take place after formal recruitment in the fall of 2002.
Our thanks to the local alumnae and local collegians, the National Extension Chairman and the Extension Teams for their superior job in presenting Delta Zeta Sorority to these College Panhellenics. We are thrilled to be invited to join the Greek communities on these outstanding campuses.
++++++++++++
Tracy
