I made the quarterfinals of the big moot court competition on campus! There were 37 of us competing, I made the top 8!

Good luck! The student group running the competition (Moot Court Board) said that the first round of arguments was excellent. Both people that I argued against were very well prepared and made some good points.
I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that A) I make the Board and B) I get to the finals. They always have federal court judges and at least one state Supreme Court justice as the judges for the finals, so it would be awesome to get to argue in front of them.

Sigh. I remember these times. Fun times. I loved my moot court experience. Do some extra research before the competition just in case. Congratulations!

Thanks! It's actually a closed research universe, so we're stuck with what we have for case law and other research. But, I'm going over my argument again to correct a couple of the issues I had in the prelims.

So, my little ride came to an end tonight - I lost a 2-1 decision in the quarterfinals. I can't complain - the other guy was very good, and my nervousness just got the best of me. Oh well, it was worth it, and I did better than I would have imagined at the start of the competition.

So, just to complete the story, I found out tonight that I made the Moot Court Board. There were 8 or 9 of us who made it out of the 29 competitors; I talked to the student judges, and they said that they graded me really highly, and that my quarterfinal loss was even more narrow than I had thought.
So, even with the loss, I still got what I wanted - I'm thrilled!

Thanks - between school, journal, moot court and working full-time I'll have my hands full, but it was too good of an opportunity to pass up. Guess it means less sleep and more caffeine...

I hear ya....
Remember when I told y'all that I decided not to even apply for Law Review after I got the invite? Well... I wrote the 'upper division' paper for my conlaw prof and now he wants me to polish it a little bit and submit it to the Law Review and other publications.
I'm trying to do this law school thing exerting as little effort as possible.
It's not working.

That's great though - being published would be quite an accomplishment.
I divide law school activities into two categories:
1) Lots of extra time with little pay-off
2) Lots and lots of extra time with a lot of pay-off
I feel like the chance to get published goes into the second category.

Congratulations. I can easily say that being on the Moot Court Bench was the most useful activity (in terms of preparing me for practice) in three years of law school.

Awesome news! I really regret not being able to audition for Moot Court - I was in weddings both years the weekend of the audition. I hope you enjoy it!
