Dumb crap people try to sell you...out in the streets
I don't know about other cities, but in some parts of St. Louis, people try to sell you random crap. There's never been a time I visited the U-City Loop, and no one has tried to sell me CDs. When I say "CDs", I'm not talking about selling mainstream stuff at a cheaper price, I'm talking about shitty rap music, where they probably made up the rhymes sitting on a curb in a White Castle parking lot on the corner of Martin Luther King St. at Kingshighway.

Somebody sold me a rap CD out on U Street. That was during the AKA boule -- i haven't even listened to the thing yet. I bought it because he was very respectful, clean, and probably cute (that's the way to my pocket really). Plus, I know what it's like to independently create and distribute your work.
That said.... I usually don't get accosted in the street to buy stuff. People are ALWAYS trying to sell us stuff at my job though. UGH! Don't stop by, you're interrupting me!

Ugh....I loathe this about NYC, so many vendors and what not on the streets. My least favorite is the salon packages for fancy haircuts & conditioning treatments. What a rip off!
There's some ppl on the subways who try to sell their poetry. Usually it's awful. And the battery ladies on the subway too with their crazy light up keychains. "Batteria one dolla. Chapstick one dolla."

Let's not forget the ball and weasel that's all over Chinatown. Also those tiny turtles seem to be popular with street vendors.

Awww yeah. A dad of one of my students was arrested for selling stolen goods down there. Sad.
I haven't been down there in FOREVER. Canal Street = avoid at all costs.

not all the street vendors are bad. the salon packages are annoying. im not buying a haircut off the street.
the battery/games/DVD ladies are awesome lol. i mean who has a need for "wan dalla" batteries when most people are using iPods? and DVDs for "phiii dollaaaaaa" are hit or miss. usually a miss for me, unless its a movie i really want to see. and even then i wait for someone else to buy it.

Canal Street is crap now. oversaturated with fake bag sellers and the like. there are only so many plastic necklaces, scarves, sunglasses and watches you can own.
and perfume, lest not forget the perfumes. its kind of a ghost town down there now.

my absolute favorite are the blind men who try to "give" you a pencil and then give you a card saying they're blind so give them a dollar.
umm no sir.

I haven't been approached too many times by people selling stuff on the streets, but this past weekend, my friends and I were approached while we were window shopping on South Street. This guy came up to us and asked if we had ever heard of Wu-Tang Clan. He said he was a member of Wu-Tang and he was selling his solo CD for $10, which he then proceeded to pull out of his inner jacket pocket. I don't remember what he said his name was, and since I don't listen to Wu-Tang, I don't know if he really was one of the guys. My one friend was like "Oh, sorry, we don't have CD players." Then the guy asked if any of us were single. We said no and walked away.

What kind of janky streets do you hang out on? I never see that. The subway I don't see as much anymore but I miss the flashing yo-yo sellers and the deaf lady who sells socks the most.

I once went to one of the 'back rooms' for fake purses & tiffany's stuff. Somewhere deep in Chinatown. It was in an office building of some sorts. 5 locks on the door. Sccccarrrry.

I've seen them being sold near Macy's and Columbus Circle.
The yo-yos! Love those.
