Here is a trailer of the new Disney princess movie with Anika Noni Rose supplying the voice of the Princess.

They changed the name to Tiana and she's no longer a chamber maid for those who are still wondering.
It'll be interesting to see. I'm very excited. It really shouldn't have taken them this long to put something like this out.

It should be interesting. I haven't been a huge Disney fan in a few years so I don't know if I'd see it in the theater.
I did laugh at the big New Orleans accent and missing teeth of that bug. It gave me a Song of the South flashback.
They changed her name and that she's a chamber maid. Okay. I read in the comments section of youtube that the frog turns into a white prince? Is this true? If it is, I don't think it would've been too much to ask that the frog turn into a black prince. No need to wait until we have a black princess to celebrate the joys of interracial dating.
Other than that, there will be something in it that can be criticized. Just like most Disney movies. Can't please everyone.

It is funny when someone bumps an old thread that you completely forgot you started.

I'm pretty sure Brandy would be considered Disney's first non-animated black princess. Link: Cinderella (1997)

LOL - I love the Cajun firefly! Reminds me of way too many people from my youth!
And as far as the white prince goes...maybe they are playing off of the whole "Quadroon ball" mentality...who knows.
But umm, yeah - I'll watch this when it comes out. Maybe not at the movies though (HK1974 can't imagine being in a theater with a bunch of screaming little girls )

Umm....I don't know how I feel about it! It looks like it'll be a cute movie, but I have a feeling there will be some intentional/unintentional (you call it) stereotypes. I.e. Tiana's speech and the Cajun fly.
Yes, that is true...you can't please everyone!

I recoiled at first sight of the goofy firefly and the gap-toothed gaping grin.
WTF???

I like the trailer. Yay Anika Noni Rose. I am planning on going to see it.
I'm so excited that Disney is going back to regular animation and fairy-tale based stories (however loosely). I am also looking forward to Rapunzel (is there a thread on that yet?)

There's a Prince Naveen character listed in IMDB. Is that supposed to be THE PRINCE? Because Naveen isn't a "white" name.

My only request: Can we please get the characters to start singing their own songs again? I cannot sit through one more Disney / Phil Collins production.
PS - That firefly is one butt-ugly sidekick.

Hey, I like some Phil Collins too. The Tarzan music was just fine. It was just when none of the movies have singing characterization... the characters don't have as much life or depth.
Plus, "You'll Be in My Heart" gets its ass kicked by "Kiss the Girl" and "Something There." Not to much jazzy ditties like "Never Had a Friend Like Me" and of course "Under the Sea." And the story moves along so much better when you can have irony such as seen in "Gaston" and "Kill the Beast."
