She should still be grounded, but still allowed to go on the school trip only.

Beaudoin {the dad's lawyer} noted the girl used a court-appointed lawyer in her parents' 10-year custody dispute to launch her landmark case against dear old dad.

Is it interesting there is a 10-year custody dispute. Seems to me daughter-dear certainly has the being manipulative learned.

Imagine how deadly she will be when she gets a man....
anywho...I hope this doesn't give our gov't any ideas....we already can't spank kids in some places but interfering with grounding and discipline? going too dayumed far.

So is the court going to start paying the internet bills, her food and clothing bills, etc....If not, the man should be able to have rules in his own house.

I have a feeling the mom is involved with this. But the thing is, if the mom allows the kid to do this at her house, then the mom is an unfit mother.

Only in Canada. The link isn't working for me but it sounds like this girl took her dad to court because he grounded her? whats next? Have they started taking fat kids away from their parents under grounds of child abuse or endangerment?

This case is total BS. I can't even believe it made it to court.
Quebec uses a completely different legal system. Quebec uses the Napoleonic Code or Civil Law while the rest of Canada uses Common Law.
I can't believe any judge in their right mind would over turn a parental punishment. I think grounding the girl was too light of a punishment!
You say only in Canada...we say only in Quebec!

I don't think it has anything to do with the Napoleonic code! Louisiana's legal system is also based on the Napoleonic code, and you would NEVER see a decision like this in Louisiana!

I never said that it had anything to do with their type of legal system. It was supposed to be more of an aside just stating for those that didn't know, that they operate on a different legal system. I apologize if my statement inferred that I was blaming their legal system. I was blaming the Quebecois !
As another aside, wasn't it Louisiana that wanted to make it an offence to wear low riding pants??
Either way, the decision was asinine and I'm surprised it hasn't come up for a review of some kind. If I was her father, I would have completely washed my hands of her. She can go live with her mother.

Naw, Louisiana wanted to make "tacky" a felony but had to settle for a misdemeanor.

According to the Ottawa Citizen, the girl's father is appealing this.

Yes, and we also tried to make a law mandating that children must say "sir" and "ma'am" when addressing their teachers!
What's the punishment? Jail time? Ha!
