Hey Ladies
I had to bring this up, why just because after a crazy day or nite rather, I just had to stress this point This one is for the ladies, please please be safe when you are out late at night or not in good company, And please make smart decisions!
A friend of mine last nite, on her way to the same party that the rest of us was at, on her way to the house, she was attacked and then raped. SO I must stress to you all, please be safe, always try to walk with someone, always stay in lighted areas. HAve something on you , whether it's a whistle or pepper spray or whatever, or even take a self defense class or something, just be safe.
Now, I'll never be afraid to go out or anything, but you bet I 'll double check my surroundings and deffinetly be more careful.
Just a word to the wise

Diana, I'm so sorry about your friend! Is she (physically) alright? Did this happen in Towson? Did they find the "person" (I use that term loosely) that did it? When I think of all the times in college I used poor judgement by walking home alone, etc.....
My prayers are with your friend.

Your advise is something we all think about but dismiss because we never think we're voulnerable in surroundings we're used to. So thank you for point out that bad things can happen in places you're familiar with.
Also I hope you and your friend are okay. I hope they can bring the person to justice and that she can start healing right away! As you know your job is to be a rock of support for her - as I'm sure you already are!
My thoughts are with you all!

Thankyou, so much , I personally feel a little bit better then I did the day before, as for my friend is fine, she 's a bit shaken but physically she is ok. as well as everyone else, cause we all had walked that same street maybe minutes before, either by ourselves or just as groups, but it was the fact that it could have happened to anyone one of. So I think as a whole group we're all a little stirred up. They didn't catch the person, but it was on the news today saying that the guy is going from campus to campus in the Baltimore area. So ladies on all campuses, especially any area Bmore campuses, Be careful.

OMG... I'm glad to hear your friend is (relatively) ok, and I hope the cops catch the bastard.
I'm a city girl, and the attitude of "always be aware of your surroundings" has been thoroughly ingrained in me. Example: When I'm alone and getting into my car, I always have my keys in hand, I look under the car and in the back seat, and I get in and lock the doors immediately. You can never be too careful - it only takes a few seconds, and it could save your life.
When I was in school, I belonged to an organization whose members were mostly female (not my sorority). At one of our meetings, we had someone from the campus police come in and talk about personal safety. She specifically recommended against pepper spray or any other weapon, because it can be easily turned against you. A whistle is a good thing to have around, though, and the CPs gave them out every year to both male and female students - but it ain't gonna help if no one's around to hear it.

thanks for the reminder, isn't it scary how we totally dismiss things like being aware of the sourounding and then think wow that so could have been me... I hope that your friend is doing well

Hey everyone, thanks for all the reply's. Yep she is doing pretty good actually, but I think she is taking better precaustions because of it. Actually now I think we all are. Like you said we tend to dismiss things and think it could never happen to you, well guess what now after this, I triple lock my car, make sure I always have my phone with me, and I truly never ever walk anywhere at nite by myself!
So hopefully, everyone else now will learn from this experience as I did.
